11 Republican Senators Are Set To Challenge Biden’s Presidential Election Win: Why The Attempt Is Futile

US President Donald Trump

An uphill task awaits the seeming Trumpists who on the face of it, believe that their disruptive activities would overturn Biden’s victory.

When a group of 11 Republican senators and senators-elect on Saturday said that they intend to appeal the upcoming certification of the results of the presidential election, some of them probably know what the outcome would be.

The group, led by Texas Senator Ted Cruz, in a joint statement, said that they will vote against the certification of electors from states where US President Donald Trump has disputed Democrat Joe Biden’s win in the November election.

The 11 Republicans justified their plans by claiming that the election “featured unprecedented allegations of voter fraud, violations and lax enforcement of election law, and other voting irregularities.

What they did not factor in is the bumbling attempts by President Donald Trump to blackmail Georgia’s Secretary of State, who himself is very wise and very shrewd.
Georgia’s Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger shrewdly wired his phone to record conversations and recorded the president as he piled pressure on him to find extra votes that would tip the scales in his favor.

The senators said in a statement that “We intend to vote on Jan. 6 to reject the electors from disputed states as not ‘regularly given’ and ‘lawfully certified’ (the statutory requisite), unless and until (an) emergency 10-day audit is completed,” they said in the statement.

In a separate action, Senator Josh Hawley had previously said he would join with some House Republicans to object to the certification of the election results.

The moves are expected to simply draw out the certification process.

Trump, with the support of many congressional Republicans, has been promoting unfounded claims that the election was rigged against him, but has provided no proof that swayed any court to his side.

His legal team has lost dozens of cases in the courts, and cases brought by his allies to the Supreme Court were also rejected.

The US Electoral College has voted to confirm Biden as the next president, while some Republicans have also recently acknowledged the Democrat’s win after weeks of allowing Trump to spread false claims of widespread voter fraud.

Congress is mandated to certify the results on Wednesday before Biden is inaugurated on January 20.

With the angst over the president’s subtle blackmail, even the die-hard Republicans whose votes would have counted in the by-elections in Georgia would be so depressed that they may not turn out to vote. This would make the democrats candidates an easier win.

Besides that, if Democrats and Republicans reach a parity tie, the tie breaker would be the Senate President, and she is the incoming Vice president Kamala Harris.

Despite these hurdles, why are the Republican senators carrying on their plan with seeming seriousness ?

Albeit, it is designed to humor outgoing president Donald Trump some more and add it to their resumé as loyal party men. That way, they can connect with hardline Republican Party members who are die-hard Trump supporters. This is with eyes on future votes.

Either way, American democracy has been hurt deeply.
