When the People’s Democratic Party, PDP’s ship was experiencing turbulence masterminded by a PDP man-friday Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff, All Progressive Congress, APC foot-soldiers, public affairs commentators, and social media propaganda czars spewed so much dizzying gibberish and bunkun on a daily basis.
The words and decisions of certain High Court Judges who milled politically consecrated injunctions and judgments tacitly confirmed the fact that the power contest within the PDP was engineered by them.
Through divine intervention, tenacity of Sen. Ahmed Makarfi’s faction (supported by almost all the PDP governors and elected officers) and the courage of the Justices of the Supreme Court, PDP’s quagmire was eventually resolved. After the great victory, they have successfully conducted their national convention. And their new executive officers hit the ground running by effectively discharging their constitutionally bestowed schedule of opposition.
Existence of a vibrant opposition party in a democracy has uncountable advantages to the body polity. So when APC juggernauts and their activists designed a lethal crisis for the PDP and openly poured fuel on the fire, it’s a confirmation that they do not believe in the very ethos of democracy. And were therefore, not willing to be faithful to mandates entered with Nigerians in 2015.
The formula is simple: render the opposition ineffectual. Afterward, let loose the beast of impunity.
But the PDP weathered the storm, and APC’s turn came.
Theirs has been more tumultuous and destructive. The political katrina brewed by the impunity of their kingpins has engulfed the party at all levels.
It was so messy that governors are barring senators from visiting their constituencies.
In other fronts ministers are openly fighting with their state governors.
At the national level of their party, some officers are calling for the head of the Chairman and the National Chairman is up in arms with the National leader of the party.
In some states, splinter groups have set up rival offices and secretariats. These warring groups are providing Nigerians with free comedy through their suspension, query and the physical assaults of opponents.
No where is this drama more fascinating like the tango between Gov. Nasir El-rufai of Kaduna State and Sen. Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi. This godfather and godson face-off has destroyed the party beyond imagination. And it will be easier to pull a camel through the eye of a needle than reconcile the sharply divided and battle ready factions.
Political walls caught whispers by some APC heavyweights that in a few weeks time a splinter group will emerge at the national level. The list of officers and an office complex has already been acquired. This group wants to use the APC’s inability to conduct a national convention since creation and tenure expiration of the present executive officers as reasons behind their action. That will be the last bang or last mass for APC.
Pundits familiar with the political dynamics of Nigeria will tell you that APC’s crisis erupted at the wrong time. The time they need to work things out and participate in the 2019 elections is too short. Theirs can be likened with a combination of all the deadliest diseases in a single body system.
Sen. Ahmed Bola Tinubu, the political merchant of the South West has been given an impossible assignment of reconciling aggrieved party members. He has started making the rounds already.
But we know that PMB’s cabal just created a project to massage his ego, because Tinubu is looking for an opportunity to reduce loss of his bad electoral investment of 2015. He therefore accepted to embark on quite an impossible assignment.
Karma is indeed a cold hearted bitch. She never forgives nor forgets to discharge her duties. She had a date with APC, and she honoured it. Her mission is to hand over a capital punishment to the APC.
Consequently, APC will be the only party in the history of Nigeria that will rule for only four years. It looks like they will be perpetual history makers, they made history by ousting a sitting government and they will make history by being the party with the shortest stint in power.
The scripture piqued: wish onto others what you wish for yourself.
