A group operating under the aegis of Berom Political Frontiers has called on Sen. I.D. Gyang to refrain from representing the Berom people in the capacity of a political leader.
The group which is a political body belonging to one of the largest ethnic groups in Plateau State, North Central Nigeria, was initiated by concerned youths within the Berom speaking community of Plateau State to hold forth for the Berom people on matters concerning emergency interventions.
Briefing Journalists on Friday on plans to hold its Annual event, Thanksgiving Service and Prayer Day called “WUSAL BEROM”, the group expressed dismay over utterances credited to Senator I.D. Gyang.
The Spokespersons of the group, Mr. David Choji, Chairman and its Secretary, Pam Markus said, “we want to inform the world that, our attention has been drawn to a statement credited to Sen. Istifanus D. Gyang, the Senator, representing the good people of Plateau North Senatorial District, at the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly, wherein, he tendered an unreserved apology on behalf of the Berom people and the entire Plateau State people for a wrong we are yet to establish or made aware of by his humble self, to the Hausa and Fulani people at his residence on the last Sallah celebration.
“We want to state here and now that, his action and utterance came as a shock and very embarrassing to us, as we never gave him such mandate in the conflict circle, to delve into the debacle between the Berom people and the Hausa/ Fulani.
“In the report that has gone viral, the Senator, our Son, Brother and Member, had demanded that he also package the Hausa Fulani quest for forgiveness to us as he allegedly and falsely conveyed ours to them.
“We want to state that, Sen. I. D. Gyang, cannot be our spokesman at that level, when we still have occupants of our traditional stools, socio-cultural groups alive and our people Internally Displaced as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) still existing and displaced from their ancestral homes.
“We therefore, want to use this press briefing to dissociate the Berom people from his politically packaged forgiveness exercise that was consummated at his residence in the just celebrated Sallah”.
The group however hinted that the 2019 (WUSAL BEROM) is slated for this coming Sunday, being the 10th day of November, 2019, at Vwei (Mararaban Jama’a) Open Arena, Jos Plateau State.
“On the second leg of this press briefing, Berom Sons and Daughters are expected to grace the occasion from far and near. But, mostly expected to grace and pull down the Grace of God on this occasion are those of us, who dwell within Berom villages, towns and Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Plateau State and its environs.
“This renowned occasion, known to all as WUSAL BEROM, started in 1993, when our great fathers initiated and established it to cause a strong unity among Berom people, irrespective of their religious or political leanings.
“Secondly, with the utterance of the National President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Socio-cultural organization, Abdullahi Bodejo, saying that, there was no basis for Fulani herdsmen to apologize to Governor Samuel Ortom, over alleged killings of Benue people.
“Stating and I quote, “I am the National President of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, I didn’t apologize to anybody; our organization didn’t apologize to anybody because Fulani herdsmen didn’t kill or hasn’t killed anybody. I was surprised at where journalists got that story. Maybe, the journalists wanted a story to sell their papers. It is fake news!”
“We, as Berom people, want to also use this press briefing to “Based on the Fulani National President’s revelation above, we use this medium to call on Sen. I.D. Gyang to tender an unreserved apology to the Berom people and the entire Plateau people now, as the forgiveness package meant to deceive the people has crumbled in the face of TRUTH.
“Furthermore, we call on Sen. I.D Gyang, to tell the people of Plateau State of what has gone wrong with the political son and fatherly relationship between him and the former governor of the State, Sen. Jonah David Jang, his Boss, while he served as Permanent Secretary, Security.
“We also want to know why, Sen. Gyang is celebrating and touring around the state, with some alleged political foes, antagonists of Jonah Jang’s immediate past administration, close rivals and opponents to his political interest for the Berom and appointing them as Special Assistants, while his former boss, Sen. Jang is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the Plateau State High Court in Jos.
“Additionally, we want to also submit that we are aware that there are already appeals flying out of the Plateau State High Court, presided over by Hon. Justice Daniel Longji, to the Court of Appeal concerning some of his rulings in the on-going trial of Sen. Jonah Jang. We can also observe desperate moves by several people to see that the Senator is jailed over the allegations made by the EFCC hence, the amended charge recently filed by the EFCC.
“On this note, we wish to inform the general public that we have directed our legal team and members to look into our findings and see what can be legally done, to address these perceived plans, which some of our sons and daughters are also involved in”.
