Forum Of Concerned Niger Delta Stakeholders (FOCONDS) has cried out to Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari over what they allege as the diversion of
Niger Delta Development Commission’s (NDDC) resources into the Akwa Ibom state gubernatorial ambition of Mr. Nsima Udo Ekere, the incumbent Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, leaving contractors from the entire Niger Delta unattended to. This according to them has put them and other stakeholders into untold hardships.
Foconds is therefore urging the country’s president to relieve him of his duties so as to adequately concentrate 100 percent of his time to his ambition rather than giving his duties only one percent attention.

OPEN LETTER TO H.E. PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI
20th September 2018

President and Commander-in-Chief

State House, Aso Rock Villa, Abuja
THE URGENT NEED TO END THE UNTOLD HARDSHIP BEING VISITED ON THE NIGER DELTA REGION BY NSIMA UDO EKERE’S CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE OF DUTY AS NDDC MD/CEO
First and foremost, we wish to place on record our deep persuasion that the sterling integrity of your leadership of Nigeria so far, compels all your appointees to discharge their duties with genuine commitment and integrity; such as Mr. Nsima Udo Ekere, incumbent MD/CEO, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), appears to know nothing of. Presently, Mr. Ekere is discharging his NDDC MD/CEO duties with the lowest possible level of commitment and integrity as he is now 99% of the time focused on his 2019 Akwa Ibom State gubernatorial ambition and nothing else.
Sir, as we are writing you this Open Letter, Mr. Ekere’s Criminal Negligence of duty as NDDC MD/CEO is painfully and relentlessly multiplying the following problems and hardships, amongst several others, on the good people of the Niger Delta:
(a) The widespread halting and abandonment of infrastructural developmental works across the Niger Delta region due to a huge backlog of files left unattended to by the MD/CEO.
(b) The wholesale bankrupting of countless Contractors, resulting in job losses, company failures, assets forfeitures, even loss of lives, due to the failure of the office of the NDDC MD/CEO to promptly attend to Contractor issues with the required dispatch.
(c) The visible slow-down, and in some cases, outright loss, of mid-level Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into the region due to the near-total absence of official cooperation from the NDDC and its non-functional MD/CEO office.
(d) The rapid increase of official corruption and operational inefficiency in the ranks of NDDC due to the absence of effective leadership and authority from the office of a non-performing MD/CEO.
(e) The socioeconomic disenfranchisement of countless Niger Delta youth leaders due to the evaporation of special NDDC interventions which traditionally accords them legitimate financial inclusion in the region’s socioeconomic landscape.
(f) The swift dissipation of regional corporate energy and morale due to the ceaseless dedication of the paraphernalia and resources of the office of the NDDC MD/CEO to service Akwa Ibom State gubernatorial politics instead of regional development.
(g) The blatant diversion of NDDC resources into Nsima Ekere 2019 Akwa Ibom State gubernatorial ambition under the thin veil of sponsoring pro-Buhari 2019 Rallies notwithstanding the statutory impropriety of the outright involvement of an appointed public office holder in partisan politics.
Your Excellency, the NDDC is the primary face of your administration to the average Niger Delta person; being the special intervention agency through which Government secures peace and inclusive development in the region. Given this reality, the present fixation of the incumbent NDDC MD/CEO on his Akwa Ibom gubernatorial ambition to the utter detriment of his MD/CEO duties is regrettably imputing the failures of his administration on the federal government under your able leadership. In support for Your Excellency’s government, we hereby most humbly call on you to relieve Nsima Udo Ekere of his current post as NDDC MD/CEO to allow him to fully concentrate on his gubernatorial ambition.
Finally Sir, Mr. Ekere’s cronies and foot soldiers are busy traversing Niger Delta main streets boasting of their principal’s deep penetration and secured support structure within your administration despite his criminal negligence of his present duties as NDDC MD/CEO. They are claiming that the strongmen of your ‘kitchen cabinet’ are the pillars behind their principal; and, as such, have licensed him to spend his time as NDDC MD/CEO for nothing else, save the plotting of his political pathway to Akwa Ibom State governorship in 2019.
Your Excellency, it will indeed be a great service to the good people of the Niger Delta for you to openly and promptly show that Nsima Ekere’s criminal negligence of his NDDC MD/CEO duties is totally out of sync with the core values of your administration; by immediately relieving him of his post as NDDC MD/CEO.
Thank you Sir.
