We have all along deceived ourselves that ours is a democracy, far from it. The people are the very reason and bedrock of a democracy in a sane society. What passes for democracy in Kaduna State has fallen far short of the ideal. The past four years since 2015 with Nasiru El Rufai as governor has been horrifying enough. It has been one man, El Rufai running the show. At best, the legislative arm of government was immediately compromised to the extent it was reduced to a rubber stamp. The judiciary which should be on guard protecting the weak from the strong has not lived up to expectations. The State is technically under siege.
We the people of Kaduna State did weather the storm of the past 4 years resolving not to have a repeat. The dictatorship on the other hand, if it achieved anything at all was to reimpose itself on the hapless people of the State using all means possible, fair and foul but almost all foul. Surely it cannot be the people of Kaduna State that could have voted for this horrible and evil government. The validity of this victory is still a subject of litigation at the tribunal.
As I have often times observed, we have voted and we believe in our hearts that we voted this evil government out but a thoroughly compromised system ruled that our votes were not enough. There is still ONE vote that is still expected. This vote comes from God Almighty and it will make all the difference.
The government has just been sworn in for another 4 year term. I did not attend the swearing in ceremony because of the staunch belief I have that the mandate is stolen, the product of an electoral heist by electoral bandits having the electoral umpire INEC as vanguard. It was variously reported that the dictator is asking for forgiveness for the hell he will be unleashing yet again on the already traumatized people of Kaduna State. It does make sense to offer an apology for wrongs already committed, but to apologize for wrong to be committed in advance does not make sense even in heathenism.
Of the religions, that I know there is none that allows for repentance before the committal of the sin. This is the clearest indication yet of the excruciating pains the people of Kaduna have had to bear under the El Rufai dictatorship. The worse case scenario is another 4 years but we are ready for whatever the dictator has up his sleeves. We know that in politics, 4 years is not a long time. If we have to travail through the next 4 years so be it because in the end, the people of Kaduna State will triumph over this dictatorship. Nauseating about El Rufai’s request in advance would appear to create the impression that the last 4 years offered the people of Kaduna State something tangible but there is nothing, practically nothing.
