How Oshiomole’s Vaulting Ambition To Be Provincial Godfather Has Thrown APC Into Unmitigated Confusion

Ex-APC national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, left, whispers to Abiola Isiaka Ajimobi in Ibadan, 2019.

Ever since Adams Oshiomole’s behind the scenes moves and later, open shenanigans to engineer the denial of a ticket to the sitting governor of Edo State in his bid to run for reelection, the All Progressives Party has been the talk shop in all discussions pertaining to politics in Nigeria.

It is no longer news that Governor Godwin Obaseki lost the bid to grab the gubernatorial ticket of the APC. He ominously rejected the mocking hint of appeal. It seemed like victory to Oshiomole but obviously he doesn’t know a hint when it comes his way. The Court of Appeal has sacked him as party chairman.

With Hilliard Eta struggling against Victor Giadom and perhaps Abiola Isiaka Ajimobi, it will take the judiciary to once again appoint an acting, or a chairman for the ruling party.

Some 11¹/² years ago, Oshiomole was boasting that he had buried the concept of godfatherism in Edo State. Curiously, after successfully helping to install Obaseki as governor, he wanted to dust his credentials and raise them up as the new godfather in Edo politics. But you can’t plant beans in Benin and expect to reap cocoyam. Ask the Rainmaker. Don’t uproot bad, then feed your people with evil. Benin will chase you out of town.
