Jos Varsity To Honour Okiro, Danbatta And Mokwol At Its 29/30th Convocation

The Vice Chancellor, University of Jos, Prof. Sebastian Maimako says the Institution has completed arrangements to honour three eminent Nigerians for their outstanding contributions towards national development, as it convocates over seven thousand and twenty graduates.

The Vice Chancellor who disclosed this Tuesday, while briefing Journalists on activities to mark the (29th/30th) joint Convocation says the authentic number of the graduating students was being computed at various departments and shall be made public during the Convocation ceremony.

He said what is certain is the conferment of Honorary Degrees on three eminent Nigerians including the Chairman/Chief Executive, Bejjeto Group Nigeria limited,
His Royal Highness Engineer John Mokwol, who would be conferred with Doctor of Engineering Degree Honoris causa (D. Engr) for his outstanding contributions to the development to the manufacturing sector in Nigeria, among other qualities.

He said the Retired Inspector General of Police, and the immediately past Chairman, Police Service Commission, Sir. Mike Mbola Okiro, CFR will be conferred with the Doctor of Law Degree Honoris Causa (LLB) for his exemplary Conduct and leadership during a sterling career in the Nigerian Police Force.

Also to be conferred with an Honorary Doctorate Degree, is Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission in recognition of his technological acumen, the Innovative and professional manner the telecoms industry is being transformed under his watch.
He said a pre-Convocation Lecture would be delivered by His Lordship Most Rev (Dr.) Mathew Hassan Kukah , Catholic Bishop of Sokoto on the topic, ‘Broken truths: Nigeria’s s Elusive Quest for National Cohesion’ among other activities.

He said the two years of his tenure as the Vice Chancellor has been very eventful, which according to him, informed his decision to conduct the joint Convocation in a grand style beginning with a Press parley to reach out to the world on its events

According to him, the University has a distinguished record of being one of Nigeria’s leading Institutions of higher learning, while its students are rated among the best this Nation can boast of.

“The University has remained consistent in its quest towards becoming a world class research-intensive Institution developing along the way of considerable track record for achieving high standard in teaching, research and Community services”.
