The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has charged the committee on selection of new education secretaries for Local Government Areas (LGAs) to look out for persons with proven integrity so as to sustain the advances made in the state’s basic education sector.

Speaking after inaugurating the committee, the governor said his administration would ensure that the effort to reposition the state’s educational sector is devoid of politics.

He said “as key actors in our process of transforming and reforming the educational system in Edo State, education secretaries in local government areas play a critical and pivotal role to the governance arrangement we have set up.

“We have decided to put this structure in place to consolidate on the successes recorded in the transformation we have undertaken so far under Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation (EdoBEST).

“In a few years, the children who started with the Edo BEST will be graduating from the primary school system and the transformation which we have started must endure. For this to endure, we must have the people who truly believe in this foundational change. We need them to help in ensuring that the structure we are putting in place is sustained.

“We want education to be devoid of politics. We want it to be done in a professional manner. This responsibility is based on trust. Those to be selected must have requisite experience and understand the system.”

“I believe that this team will give us the best. You have integrity and I expect that whatever you come out with is going to be only for the best and only the best is good of Edo state,” he said.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Anselm Ojezua, said, “We all know that your first priority is education. Therefore, on behalf of my colleagues, I want to assure you that there won’t be any compromise; we will work in accordance with the terms of reference. We assure you that whatever we produce will meet your expectations.”
