The gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde has been endorsed by a coalition of parties that include the Alliance for Democracy, AD, the Social Democratic Party, SDP, and the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP. This was as a result of coalition talks that were held in the Bodija residence of the Osi Olubadan, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, himself a former governor of the Pacesetter state.
The entrepreneur, philanthropist with a passion for awarding scholarships to students, Engr. Seyi Makinde has congratulated his fellow citizens of Oyo State on his adoption by a coalition of political parties in the state.
A statement from his campaign office signed by Prince Dotun Oyelade said that leaders of the parties, led by the Osi Olubadan, High Chief Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, Senator Femi Lanlehin, Barrister Sarafadeen Ali and Chief Bolaji Ayorinde SAN, displayed unsurpassed broad mindedness and political maturity in agreeing to adopt him to face the APC, which is the nemesis of our people.
According to the statement, the milestone achievement has now paved the way for the PDP to coast home to victory with the support of other patriotic leaders.
“The APC will be overwhelmed and drowned in their attempt to rig the election through violence and manipulation of votes”, Prince Oyelade continued.
The statement said that if the APC wishes, it can arrange a camp bed in Ibadan for their Lagos leader, our people will banish them out of our territory.
Seyi Makinde said that the APC should look for another business centre. ‘Oyo State is out of your stranglehold and out of bounds,’ he said.
Engr. Seyi Makinde had earlier on said that the PDP is ready for more merger, collaboration and alignment talks ahead of the polls on Saturday, March 9, 2019.
Makinde made the statement as he was flanked by the senatorial candidate of the party, Oyo Central, Chief Bisi Ilaka and the senator-elect, Oyo South senatorial district, Dr Kola Balogun, who defeated the incumbent governor of the state, Abiola Ajimobi, thereby putting paid to the governor’s attempt to retire to the Senate after what has been described as an underperformance in office, whereby Oyo State was driven into unmitigated debts including workers salaries that were owed for upwards of ten months. The debts, according to an informed financial analyst, may take generations of Oyo people to offset, but could be made faster with a governor who understands how to grow an economy. A skill said to be lacking in the current APC government in the state.
On the performance of PDP in last Saturday’s election, Makinde expressed his party’s appreciation to the people of the state “who trooped out in large numbers and endured obvious discomfort and challenges. They were very resolute and determined to play their role in our efforts to bring genuine change and establish a fresh and workable method of governance that is devoid of deceit and executive arrogance. To you all, I say thank you and we are very proud of you.
On the performance of the PDP in the presidential and National Assembly elections, Seyi Makinde said “a landmark historical event occurred in Oyo South senatorial district, despite intimidation, naked use of executive power and obscene deployment of billions of government money, our people decided to stay on the path of honour.
They told Ajimobi that though they are poor materially, no tyrant can take away their pride and self-esteem. Only a people galvanized by the truth and propelled by what is just can perform such heroics. That was exactly what you have done and I doff my hat.”
They were reports that agents of Governor Ajimobi had distributed sachets of garri and kulikuli (crunchy groundnut cake) as enticement to voters, but angry Oyo State voters owed salaries for several months, rejected the gifts and turned their votes against him.
Seyi Makinde told the Nigerian Tribune that one thing he is “sure of is that never again will anybody rule without the mandate of the people of Oyo State.”
“Next weekend, on March 9, they will even be more desperate and attempt to bare their fangs but they will fail even more woefully because once the constituted authority is out of the way, what can the godson do ?
A social media commentator had laid out the choice between a man who has created value and thereby created sustainable wealth with a business that has spread across 4 out of the 6 continents of the world and a man whose rise careerwise has been through the push of godfathers, describing the entrepreneur, Seyi Makinde in such deservedly glowing terms who will be in contest with Bayo Adelabu, supported by the outgoing governor, on March 9 as main candidates.
Seyi Makinde is further described as a peaceful and responsible employer of labour for over 20 years with over 2000 workers whom he has never owed salaries and a man who has been an employee all his life.
“Oyo must choose between a man with a clear set of goals in governance which will build an indigenous economy for our state and thereby create jobs and enhance living standard and a man with an incoherent economic plan”, he went on.
In August 2018, The Oasis Reporters Ibadan correspondent was at the
