The Oasis Reporters
December 19, 2018
The mood as the chief host of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP North East Campaign Organization, Dr. Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, governor of Gombe State spread his arms to welcome party faithfuls from across the length and breadth of the North East consisting of Adamawa, Bornu, Bauchi, Yobe, Taraba and across Nigeria to the Gombe State capital, Gombe, was exhilarating and sombre at the same time.
As Dankwambo was booming his smiling welcome to the PDP presidential candidate, Wazirin Adamawa, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, one thing was certain.
The critical examination of the problems confronting Nigeria, and the north east region, bedeviled by the scourge of religious insurgency was going to be on the front burner.
Solutions to the Boko Haram crisis has always come from abroad and other places within. None of them has worked. It’s about time for who feels it and knows it to step forward and lead from the front.
Atiku Abubakar is one such person and he has stepped forward under the acclamation of all of Nigeria, who are fed up with sheer incompetence in the management of the economy and the war effort.
The choice of Gombe as first campaign take off point is both strategic and symbolic.
Gombe is the oasis of peace and development in the north east region. As the bastion of the PDP in the region since 1999, it has offered quality leadership and dexterous management of the state economy especially in the last seven years and seven months of the Dankwambo administration.
Such that the Federal government chose it’s peaceful nature to rehabilitate former Boko Haram insurgents.
Gombe offers them an alternative viewpoint from what they know in the zones of war and destruction.
In recognition of the symbolism of the gathering, thousands of other parties members switched camp at the rally, to join the PDP family.
Atiku is a son of the north east. He would do his best to liberate his region from the clutches of religious ignorance that has led to the insurgency and usher it onto the path of progress and development. Leadership has always been the key. Atiku Abubakar, ably supported by Peter Obi will provide it, having been tested and trusted.
