Dapchi school girls are believed to have been taken by Boko Haram.

The Political Action Coalition Group WIMBPDP has warned President Muhammadu Buhari against using Dapchi girls as ‘pawns on his political chessboard’

The group urged him to release the school girls who were whisked away from their school dormitory in Dapchi over 5 days ago, if indeed he knew their whereabouts.

The group in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, @⁨Virginus Obeleze⁩ , on Saturday said Buhari’s continuous silence over the issue showed that he was not capable of rescuing the girls.

According to the group, “Mr. President, tongues are wagging that you know where the girls are and that you want them to be released only when it will give you the maximum political advantage. We don’t know if this is true or not, but if it is, please release the girls now.

“It is cruel and unconscionable for anyone to use these girls as pawns on a political chess board. They have now been in captivity for over 5 days. Please end the agony of the girls’ parents and indeed of all Nigerians”, it said.

“First, the President waited for all of 5 days before even admitting that the girls have been abducted, losing a critical window of opportunity to rescue them from their abductors. When eventually he was forced by pressure to admit that the abduction is real, Mr. President, his cabinet and aides chose to subject the girls’ parents and others to untold verbal assault and mental torture.

“A little over 24 hours after the girls were abducted, the army said the security leadership in the country had rescued 50 of the girls from their captors which turned out to be false as the parents of the children and school has confirmed that none of the girl’s have been rescued. Since then, Nigerians have been waiting for the girls to be rescued, to no avail. No one has told Nigerians the problems that are militating against the rescue of the girls, be it logistic or otherwise.

“More recently, on February 23rd, the military tweeted the rescue of the girls, only to retract the statement shortly thereafter. However, in the intervening period, thousands of ‘supporters’ of the President have turned to insulting the opposition party asking if they disbelieved the Chibok kidnap why would they want the president to believe the Dapchi abduction.

A known supporter of the President , Mr Okeke Godwin Iyke on Facebook today said “it is an adoption”- meaning that the girls were not kidnapped but were rather adopted. Nigerian Facebook users have been asking him who adopted who and how was the adoption negotiated and if our schools are now orphanages.

No one has told Nigerians why that ‘immediate rescue’ of the girls was botched.

“Also recently, a flurry of nocturnal activities have been ongoing ostensibly to negotiate the release of the girls, even after the same government that is apparently behind the activities had bluntly ignored wise counsel and said it would never negotiate their release.

“Finally, President Buhari, in his characteristic ‘I don’t give a damn’ attitude and nepotistic manner is yet to meet with the parents of the missing school girls.

“In a tweet by a foreign reporter with the BBC, one of the parents of the missing girls has been declared wanted by this administration and is currently hiding away in a bush for asking the government to be proactive in rescuing his daughter.
