Prolific twitterati, Reno Omokri has taken a swipe at the inaugural Democracy Day celebration on June 12, which was boycotted by all former presidents and Heads of state in the country.
His tweet read @renoomokri, “Not a single ex Nigerian President or Head of State turned up for @MBuhari’s June 12 celebration and rightly so.
Would Abiola have inaugurated a government that is so one sided where the head of every arm of government and intelligence/law enforcement agency is a NORTHERN MUSLIM? “
He wasn’t the only one, as ex senator Ben Murray-Bruce, twitted @benmurraybruce with the following words, “Now that this administration has aligned itself with Chief Abiola’s vision, I urge the government to go all the way and fulfil Abiola’s promise to bid farewell to poverty in Nigeria. Right now, we are the world headquarters for extreme poverty. Abiola won’t have been happy with that”.
As regards the boycott by former leaders, former senator Shehu Sani equally tweeted that the art of boycotting state events was a lesson learned from President Buhari himself, who usually absented himself from state events ever since he first launched his bid for the presidency, until he was declared winner of the 2015 presidential election in 2015.
All the same, the boycott was a sign that all was not well with the country.
