Donald Duke, former governor of Cross River State, reinstated as SDP Candidate

The tussle over who the authentic Social Democratic Party, SDP Presidential candidate has taken yet another turn as the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja today set aside the December 14, 2018 Judgement of the FCT High Court which upturned Donald Duke’s primary election win as the presidential candidate of the SDP at its national convention of 6 October 2018 in favour of Professor Jerry Gana, due to the Party’s internal zoning arrangement preferences.

In a unanimous judgement of the learned trial justices of the Court of Appeal presided over by Justice Adamu Jauro, it ruled in favour of Donald Duke as the SDP presidential candidate as the Court based it’s ruling on the Constitution that does not disallow any aspirant from certain states of the Federation from striving to be president of Nigeria at anytime.

It also ruled that if there is anyone to be declared winner, that person must be the one that the people voted for at the Party National Convention.

The court therefore set aside the Judgement of the Abuja High Court and declared Mr. Donald Duke as the SDP presidential candidate for the February 16 Presidential election.

Prof. Jerry Gana.
Now loses out as candidate of the SDP.

The Party’s internal arrangements had zoned it’s presidential ticket to the North. Jerry Gana aspired and was hopeful, until Cross River state former governor, Donald Duke joined the party and signified his intention to run for office.
