The Oasis Reporters
December 12, 2018
The Atiku Campaign Council did not need to think hard before picking Gombe as it’s launchpad for the kck off of the presidential campaign in the North East of Nigeria, despite the fact that in the 2015 election, valid voting strength in the entire state was above 500,000. There are States in the North East that can muster over a million registered voters, insurgency or not.
The choice of Gombe is believed to be predicated on showcasing the brighter side of the North East.
The dominant theme of discussions that shaped the image of the North East in the media has been the gloom of insurgency, and this has blighted the region. Gombe state has proven to be the oasis, or better put, the Jewel in the Savannah. So what better place for the Atiku Campaign Organization to launch the North East Campaign than the mini Singapore of the region, where things actually work?
All thanks to the purposive work put into building Gombe into an enviable state to it’s governor of seven years and seven months, with five more months to go, Dr. Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo.
When newsmen swarm the state to cover the Atiku Abubakar North East Campaign, they won’t be looking out for signs of military campaign, but rather, at the marvel that the once rural state has transformed into.
The governor himself would be on hand to welcome the populace that would be in Gombe for the flag off of the campaign, a man whose solid works spoke for him massively, such that the citizens became the defensive bulwark against the Buhari gale that swept through the North in 2015.
Gombe State remains the only PDP state in the North East, the rest are expected to turn PDP in the 2019 election because the choices between determination to end the insurgency bedeviling the region and continuing the usual deceitful tendencies have never been as stark in contrast as it is today. After all, who feels it, knows it.
Atiku Abubakar is himself from Adamawa State in the North East. It is expected that what would be tugging at the minds of its citizens would be the trade and insincerity that has underpinned the gross suffering of it’s people.
They knew that President Muhammadu Buhari had requested for the sum of $1 billion to fight the insurgency.
They would be asking to know those that possibly ensured that utilizing the money all this while was delayed, such that the gains of the military was reversed in some instances, Boko Haram advanced in some instances while the vulnerable populations continued to empty into Internally Displaced People’s camps.
That is, with all the accompanying economic disruptions.
Perhaps they are asking, isn’t it about time one of their own took charge to make bold moves for normalcy to be achieved?
The set time for the man who feels it to take control, is now. The North East would be lining up behind their son, Atiku Abubakar, supported by patriots from the remaining partner regions in brotherhood and solidarity.
