Plateau Youth G-17 Peace and Progressive Forum
It is with great sadness and displeasure that we are addressing you again on the attack and gruesome killing of nine (9) persons in Rim Ward Riyom LGA, Plateau State and the fatal injuries three sustained from the attacks by suspected herdsmen along Hoss-Rim Road, Riyom LGA while coming back from their economic activities.
We wish to state categorically that the annihilation of innocent and harmless citizens is unacceptable, wicked and inhuman. We condemn such barbaric and unprovoked attacks in the strongest possible terms.
We call on Operation Safe Haven to swing into action to ensure the perpetrators of the inhuman acts are arrested and prosecuted.
We wish to also call on the security personnel to beef up surveillance, be more proactive, strategic and professional in their engagements.
We call on government to strengthen Local vigilante group to enhance their activities.
Our hinterlands have become more vulnerable, unsecured and prone to continuous attacks where our people are constantly being killed, harassed and others raped by same suspected herdsmen.
Despite the presence of military personnel in the villages, these attacks continue unabated without a single arrest, a situation that has brought suspicion to our people.
We call on the people to be more vigilant, cautious, avoid moving around at night and be conscious of movement of strange persons in their locations.
It is our sincere desire that the State government will borrow a leaf from Benue, Ekiti, Taraba etc by enacting and enforcing the anti grazing law to stem the spate of violent clashes between farmers and herdsmen.
We sympathize with the families of the deceased, pray for the repose of the souls while praying for speedy recovery to those fatally injured.
Mr. Dachung Musa Bagos
Convener, Plateau Youth G-17 Peace and Progressive Forum.
