Thugs Embarrass Gov. Lalong, Other Dignitaries In Kanam As Fertilizer Sales Is Commenced

It was a moment of embarrassment for dignitaries, Tuesday including Governor Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau State who converged at Dengi Mini Stadium in Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State during the sale of 2018 fertilizers to farmers.

The event, according to our correspondent was suddenly hijacked by thugs seemingly on behalf of different prospective political office seekers from the area who stormed the arena making the whole place uncontrollable.

More visible were supporters of the former Deputy Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly and member representing Kanan in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi.

In the course of the presentation of the Governor’s speech, the youths who were displaying various sizes of posters of Hon. Gagdi, indicating his interest to represent the Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Constituency in the lower federal house.

Our correspondent reports that the action of the thugs in displaying his campaign posters as if it were a rally, made the environment very rowdy.

More disturbing was the threatening advance of the thugs to the podium as Governor Lalong was making his speech to the extent that the Governor had to break his presentation to plead with them to listen to what he had say, but it fell on deaf ears. The thugs even resisted the combined efforts of the security personnel to repel them from beclouding the Governor’s position.

Perhaps, for the fear of possible outbreak of any eventuality, the thugs were let alone with their unruly behavior that left many inattentive to the governor’s message.

Subsidized fertilizer for farmers.

Meanwhile, the Governor has announced that the 2018 fertilizer sales has been subsidized and would be distributed at the rate of N5,500.00 for NPK Urea and N4,500.00 for organic fertilizer.

He warned against sharp practices normal exhibited by middle men who buy the commodity at government rate and sell it to farmers at exorbitant rates, saying his administration will not condone such tendencies and charged government officials and community leaders to monitor the sale to ensure that the fertilizer bags reaches the rightful farmers.
