Tinubu: A National Leader Or A Northern Horse?

President Muhammadu Buhari in a hearty laugh with Ahmed Bola Tinubu.

Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu has taken up the important job of reconciling the warring factions in the APC while leaving open the attack on lives and properties happening in the South of Nigeria by the hands of the herdsmen of Northern source.

This job is the only federal job he has gotten in more than three years, and the job of reconciliation is of course a good way of reconciling Tinubu himself back to the party, having been thrown behind the sidelines for ages.

And Tinubu began the job on a very good note. He wants Obasanjo and Babangida to join the retirees and take pensions, and allow the new crop of leaders to move Nigeria forward. Buhari is the front liner of the new crop of leaders; the same Buhari who came to power in Nigeria four years after Obasanjo left office in 1979 as Head of State. The same Buhari who was a senior boy to Babangida — Babangida sacked Buhari from office in August 1985.
As if Obasanjo, Babangida and Buhari were not contemporaries.

If there is any one to retire now, is it not Buhari who has become dysfunctional in government courtesy of old age and an anachronistic mind?
Among the three, Babangida is the only one who has not fulfilled his aspiration of coming back as a civilian president. Obasanjo has completed that circle. Buhari has completed the circle. If Babangida, who has not completed that circle must join the retirees and take pension, then one wonders what the dysfunctional head of the new crop of leaders must join and take. Perhaps he should join the ancestors and take worship!

And this is how the new crop of leaders led by Buhari are moving Nigeria forward; they are moving Nigeria to anarchy.

Just on Tuesday, herdsmen attacked Akure South Local Government secretariat. They injured workers and chased the people out, over the property that is rightfully the property of the council.
January 29, the herdsmen burnt down 120 acres of plantation in Osun state farm settlement. These are state properties. These armed citizens have been so decisive to attack even the symbols of our political authority.

On Saturday, police officers were ambushed and four got missing in Logo Local Government Area of Benue state. Following Monday, the body of one was found without the eyes, nose and ears.
Two officers of the Nigerian NSCDC were ambushed where they bathed in Guma Local Government area of Benue, feared dead. Killings have occurred in Ekiti, in Shaki, Oyo State and elsewhere.

The new crop of leaders have no practical program to end these attacks and deal with the criminals perpetrating the heinous attacks. Instead, they have worn the garment of condonation, as if the attacks were their own program.

Elections are near. Tinubu was the horse that Buhari rode from Lagos to Ekiti in 2015; the horse he rode on the conscience of Yoruba people. Tinubu is a powerful and influential Yoruba leader. He can be called upon and used for that task at any time. Let us hope that Tinubu will not eventually become a physical horse, which will gallop into farmlands in Ondo and Ekiti while its Fulani rider strikes natives down with machetes and spears.
