Nigeria’s one time Vice president has seemed to have distinguished himself as an uncommon statesman in the way he celebrated his former Vice presidential running late, Peter Obi as he celebrated his birthday on July 19, 2023.

This is Atiku Abubakar’s message, unplugged:

Happy 62nd birthday to @PeterObi
, a respected leader and distinguished former governor of Anambra state and presidential candidate of the Labour Party.

Your dedication to service and growth continues to inspire. As you add another year today, I, on behalf of my family and team wish you many more years in good health and vitality. -AA

Atiku Abubakar did not show anger or bitterness at his erstwhile running mate that he chose on the spur of the moment, without hesitation, trepidation or apprehension in 2019. He picked Obi, and that was it.

Abubakar may have been taken aback when four years after his run with Obi, his former deputy threw his hat into the ring to make a bold bid for the presidency while it seemed that the move was going to seriously erode a huge chunk of the support base he was relying on to try again and make another pitch.

With no entitlement syndrome whatsoever, no outsized ego or deep bitterness, here he is, celebrating Obi on his special day.

Nigerians are astonished at the uncommon goodwill, knowing the sit-tightism of African leaders. Atiku Abubakar certainly knows the good flow that goes to leaders who know when to call it a day, and shut bitterness out.

He has acted like Goodluck Jonathan, former Nigerian president who also knows how and when to call it day.
