Baci was verified by Guinness World Records on Tuesday as the new holder of the longest cooking marathon. This was announced on the official website of Guinness World Records.
The post read, “Following a thorough review of all the evidence, Guinness World Records can now confirm that Hilda Effiong Bassey, better known as Hilda Baci, has officially broken the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual), with a time of 93 hours 11 minutes.
“The 26-year-old Nigerian chef began on Thursday, May 11, and continued through Monday, May 15, cooking over 100 pots of food during her four-day kitchen stint.
“Hilda attempted to set a record of 100 hours, however, almost seven hours were deducted from her final total because she mistakenly took extra minutes for one of her rest breaks early on in the attempt.
“As with all ‘longest marathon’ records, the participant is permitted a five-minute rest break for every continuous hour of activity. These rest breaks can be accumulated if not taken. They were the only times Hilda could use the bathroom or sleep during the attempt.”
The chef expressed her gratitude and excitement on Twitter after GWR confirmed her record.
She tweeted, “This is the best news ever omg omg omg thank you so much.”
Her fans on social media congratulated her, and there was wild jubilation after the announcement.
She broke the previous record of 87 hours 45 minutes, held by Lata Tondon from India in 2019.
Hilda Baci’s name is now in the golden book of records, and Peter Obi rejoices with her, saying she “brought honour to our Nation”

I remain committed to building a new Nigeria that will provide various noble and productive platforms for Nigerian youths to live out their dreams and compete favourably on the global stage. It is POssible! -PO
When Hilda Baci started out on the Cook-A-Thon, Nigerians all over the world, cheered and Hilda Baci, the cultural icon showcasing Nigerian cuisines, soared.
The event united Nigerians as one.
,
Even former Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari had his closing remarks by talking about “Hilda’s drive, ambition and resilience” that “has brought great interest and insight into the uniqueness of Nigerian food”. She is now “a cultural icon, and I believe that this feat will inspire many more young people, in Nigeria and beyond, to follow in her footsteps”.
Thus, Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria’s president, then decided to share the “immense joy of all Nigerians as Hilda Bassey Effiong (Hilda Baci) makes history by breaking the world record for longest cooking marathon. A great day for Nigeria. We’re all very proud of what she has personally accomplished—and placing Nigeria in the global spotlight”.
A commentator, Bayo Adeyinka said on Social Media, why he loved the Hilda Baci story.
“I love the Hilda Baci story. It’s one of audacity, grit and courage. It’s even more fascinating to me because her cause united the nation for the period it lasted. Almost everyone rallied behind her and prayed for her success. It was similar to Nigeria playing in a major football tournament.
However, the most salient issue for me is the support of that male Chef, Sunny who was with Hilda throughout. He definitely won’t get the recognition but his role was very significant to Hilda’s success. I even saw a picture of Chef Sunny patting Hilda on the back, urging her on.

Then Mr Adeyinka went on to share more insight on the critical role support staff play in any organization or even the home, which cannot be over-emphasized. From the driver, to the cleaner, the security guard or domestic help, their support, though not often recognized, is critical to the success of any endeavour.
He further added: “Your support staff are like Aaron and Hur who held up the hands of Moses. While Moses was the main actor, the victory of the entire nation actually depended on those two men. If they got tired, Moses couldn’t go on.
“Truth is you’re only as effective as your support. Moses went that far because they were willing to go far with him. They sacrificed their comfort for his success.
And the good thing is, they don’t mind staying in the shadows while you enjoy the accolades.
