The Necessity of Continuing Dankwambo’s Remarkable Political Journey (IV)

The rich academic background of Dr. Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo should help to explain why the governor’s remarkable political journey should be continued.
On assumption of office as the third executive governor of Gombe State, he decided to place education as the first, second and third priority programme of his administration.
It is not as if it has been all learning and earning. But Dankwambo is very intelligent and a well-behaved leader.
His disciplined lifestyle also explains the zeal with which he first of all,modestly pursued the programmes of making Gombe special among all its peers.
Dankwambo acknowledged that because of tradition and religion, people tend to shy away from a lot of western education to some extent, especially in the northern part of Nigeria. Therefore, he took the campaign towards propagation of access to education, especially the girl child education to a higher level.
He believes in the importance of educating a woman in any household and community, as mother, home keeper and caregiver. “The educated woman is a resource for education, the hygiene of the baby, the care of the household, the care of the other children and prosperity of the society”, he said.
As a reward to the contributions and initiatives of Dankwambo, school enrolment in Gombe State increased to about 62% from the 23% where the governor met it in 2011, while examination pass rate increased from zero to 72% for girls.
With education as the priority of his administration’s attention, Governor Dankwambo has gradually eliminated abject poverty, poor personal hygiene, child abuse and sundry anti-social activities, especially political thuggery in the region.
In Gombe State, what Dankwambo has achieved is more than what words can say, those who visited Gombe State would give testimony to that.
Gombe North hasn’t been left behind considering the enormous developmental strides of his administration in the zone. It is only when Dankwambo climbed the mantle of leadership that Gombe North tasted the fruitfulness of good governance,
It is from the foregoing perspective that the basic thrust of the Dankwambo administration should be understood and his remarkable political journey should continue for the good of Gombe State and the nation at large.
