Whatever the outcome of the 2023 Nigerian general elections might be, in telling the story or writing the history of electioneering campaigns in Africa’s largest democracy, Peter Obi would occupy a pride of place in the book or story.
Campaign themes have been dramatically changed drastically, with the gaits, taking on a robust new look, resembling more like campaigns in much more enlightened democracies.
First, notice the campaigns phenomenons that used to be our theatrical themes in the past, encapsulated in this tweet by @Vincentchidi6 :
Before Peter Obi, aspirants used to roast corn, sell akara, drinking sachet water or do other petty stuffs. Now they're all granting interviews and quoting economic statistics they don’t understand. Thank you @PeterObi for teaching them how to campaign.#PeterObi4President2023

Previously, our campaign themes went from corn chewing to hair braiding, akara frying and other theatrical inanities to make people laugh and vote.
Yet situations remained the same.

But there comes a time to heed a certain call, that we should move away from jokes and banters to seriously look at ourselves, compare our lives with that of others and know where we’ve gone wrong as a people.
Statistics are now driving the message home. Peter Obi started it.
This is the speech that put @PeterObi in trouble after he addressed PDP BOT

We owe it to him for making us connect with our endless possibilities that failed leadership did not want us to be aware of, either because they didn’t know, or knew and didn’t want to tackle.
Well, the masquerade is unmasked and in the open market square. The next step is ours.
