PDP’s Strategic Choice By Naming Makinde To Chair Kogi Guber Council

The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has named the Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde as Chairman, Kogi State governorship campaign council. Kogi State seems to be central in the hearts of PDP stalwarts because it was taken from the party, four years ago. It is currently being governed by Yahaya Bello, Nigeria’s youngest governor, but many say, his tenure has been lackluster. Workers have been owed salaries for several months, and the people seem to be desirous of change.

Engr. Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo State has credibility in governance and also has hands on experience in uprooting the ruling party. He did that in Oyo State. PDP supporters, especially in Logo State hope that he will pilot the PDP there to take out the ruling APC, using his Oyo template, whatever it was.
The party made this known in a statement signed by its National Organizing Secretary, Col. Austin Akobundu (rtd) which also contained a long list of other members appointed to the committee.

The party also listed Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State as the deputy chairman of the campaign council.
It will be recalls that the PDP had previously contacted the then Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial district, Melaye who was also an aspirant in the September 4th Guber primary to chair the campaign council.
Dino Melaye however, refused to accede to the request, saying he wished the party well, before it unfolded that Melaye’s election to the Senate had been nullified by the Court of Appeal, and fresh election, ordered .
The statement further requested members of the committee to make themselves available at the party’s Wadata Plaza headquarters for official inauguration on Friday, 11th October 2019 at 10am.

The party in a similar development, also named the Governor of Bauchi state, Bala Mohammed, as the Chairman of the Bayelsa state governorship campaign.
