Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Governor of Enugu State, undoubtedly is one of the most popular governors not only in the South East zone of Nigeria, but in the entire country.

He is a silent achiever, philanthropist listener and servant leader to the people of Enugu who has warmly endeared himself to his people through several landmark achievements in governance.

Under his first tenure as governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi started redefining the face of not only the state capital Enugu but communities across the three senatorial districts of the state in terms of infrastructural development.

His administration has made the state capital less congested by giving a new lease of life to people in the hinterlands. The government has turned semi-urban areas to new urban areas while effecting a growing mass movement for opening up of the rural areas of the state.

Restoring light to Nsukka

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s government stepped down a 30MVA in Nsukka from the 132KV Makurdi Feeder, which his administration facilitated, to improve the quality of electricity supply in the area.

The 30MVA Injection Sub-Station in Nsukka was the programme of the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) but received maximum support from Ugwuanyi’s administration which provided sundry assistance such as resolution of all legal issues concerning the project, bush clearing as well as dealing with other obstructions impeding the line’s passage, and construction of the outgoing feeders to supply power to end users.

Ugwuanyi stressed that the stepping down of the power line was “one of the greatest achievements we made, including peace.”

His government rehabilitated access roads in Nsukka and Igbo-Eze South Local Government areas, constructed the Nru road, in Nsukka LGA, and rehabilitated access road In Eha-Alumona, Nsukka LGA, Enugu State,

The state government has said it is ready for construction of a multi-million naira first flyover at the popular Nike Lake Road T-Junction, Abakpa, to end the perennial traffic gridlock that had crippled activities around the area.

The government constructed link bridge and graded road between Ugbene 2 and Alulu, which Ugwuanyi said would serve as alternative route for motorists and commuters moving to Nike-Opi-Nsukka Road from Trans Ekulu Axis and its environs or those coming into Enugu town from Opi-Nsukka Road

Workers’ friendly Governor

Enugu State under Ugwuanyi was recently named alongside Lagos and Rivers states by a reputable organisation, BudgiT- as the only three states in Nigeria meeting their recurrent obligations, especially by paying workers’ salaries promptly.

The Nigerian Labour Congress described Ugwuanyi as a governor clearly with a magic wand, singling him out among all the 36 state governors in the country as the best in that respect .

Peace in Enugu

Enugu State can be adjudged the most peaceful state in the Southeastern part of the country due to Governor Ugwuanyi’s peace and development initiatives.

He was commended by the NSCDC Commandant in the state, Ezenyimuru, for the cooperation and support his administration has continued to extend to the security agencies in Enugu State, to ensure that the existing peace and good governance in the state are sustained.

The NSCDC Commandant said “because of the peace that rules in Enugu State, people are flooding into this state. You (Ugwuanyi) said that Enugu State is in the hands of God and you are attracting peace unknown to you.

Through intelligence gathering, one of those we interviewed told me that it is only in Enugu that they can sleep with their two eyes closed; that they have not seen a peaceful state better than Enugu State”.

Ugwuanyi the Philanthropist

The governor can be described as a ‘man with a large heart’s as his philanthropic reach spanned scholarships to needy students at all educational levels, infrastructure development in educational institutions and in churches, provision of boreholes to solve the water needs of some communities in his constituency as well as donation of electric transformers to many communities, among many others.

Ugwuanyi: An Administrator par Excellence

Being able to effectively manage the purse of Enugu State today remains one of the greatest credentials of Governor Ugwuanyi. And he has been severally commended for his outstanding frugality.

Records have it that since his assumption of office, Governor Ugwuanyi has traveled abroad only once. And that was when he led his state’s economic mission to Dublin, Ireland, a mission that is already yielding visible dividends, especially in the state’s education sector.

Longest serving Federal lawmaker from Enugu North senatorial district

A three – term Federal lawmaker, Ugwuanyi is the longest serving member of the House of Representatives from the entire Enugu North senatorial district.

He was first elected into the 5th Assembly of the Federal House of Representatives in 2003 and he served the people of Igboeze North/Udenu Federal Constituency in the 6th and 7th Assembly as well.

He made his mark at the National Assembly, holding leadership positions in vital committees.
