The Sule Lamido Support Group has challenged the All Progressive Congress, APC to concentrate on good governance rather than harassing and intimidating opposition party members across the country, even as it has been reminded to note that good democracy only thrives with the existence of opposition parties.
Plateau state chapter of Sule Lamido support group for the 2019 presidential ambition of Mr. Sule Lamido made this call, Thursday while addressing a world press conference on recent attacks on opposition parties in the state, allegedly being perpetuated by the ruling All Progressive Party, APC.
Speaking to newsmen the Plateau State Secretary, media group, Sadat Garga and the state Public Relations Officer, PRO, Abaukar Mohammade Badu, decried the level at which the opposition parties in the state were being threatened.
“APC has taken part in the destruction of properties of other political parties, and “we will not sit by and watch these people truncate democracy”, he said. .
” When PDP was in power for sixteen years, we were not attacking opposition parties rather, we focused on physical and human development. But to our greatest surprise in the last few weeks, we have been witnessing a new tradition of pulling down of bill boards belonging to the PDP, by the APC.
“Yesterday, Wednesday, March 7,2018, we closed here after 5.00pm, only to wake up this morning to realize that the Flex of banners used in this office as symbol for the supporters of Sule Lamido 2019 ambition were vandalised and removed and we have reported to the landlord, the police and we got hint of those of who did that and we will soon expose them”.
” When PDP was in power, we did not go after any body’s bill board, but today the ruling party, APC has embarked on a tradition of pulling down of billboards belonging to other political parties. This is uncivic, uncivilized, undemocratic and barbaric and we must trace this to the root and ensure that those involved are brought to book”.
He described such action as a bad signal for the entrenchment of democracy and challenged the APC to focus It’s attention on good governance, and at the same time, allow opposition parties to play their constitutional role as the opposition party.
