As Discordant Information Fuel The Buhari Anxiety Protests, Labour Demands Good Governance

At the start of the Muhammadu Buhari led administration in May 2015, many Nigerians were taken aback that their new president seemed to have more media aides with various titles than Economic advisers. Indeed he practically had no Economic team. Therefore when the economy tanked and an unprecedented recession crept in to stay and grow to the discomfiture of the citizenry, nobody was surprised .
The Media aides did a terrific job of diverting attention from the clay feet of Buhari in running the affairs of the country, leading many gullible Nigerians to an unending tale of the woes of the previous administration and despite the daily castigations and propaganda of stolen and returned funds without evidence, at the critical time of needing a well coordinated information management, the president’s media team floundered helplessly, such that President Muhammadu Buhari could have done away with their useless efforts to save the nation from added stress.
So it was that Femi Adesina, a Media Adviser to the president announced that President Muhammadu Buhari was proceeding on a medical vacation to London for ten days. The nature of the medical attention was not disclosed but if after ten days the president failed to turn up at his duty post to attend to the needs of Nigerians that chose him over his main rival, former President Goodluck Jonathan, courtesy demands that a reasonable explanation be given.
When the Adviser on Media matters, Femi Adesina, a former President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors issued a press release titled :
STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE:
PRESIDENT BUHARI EXTENDS VACATION, WRITES NATIONAL ASSEMBLY
It read,
“President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the National Assembly today, February 5, 2017, informing of his desire to extend his leave in order to complete and receive the results of a series of tests recommended by his doctors.
The President had planned to return to Abuja this evening, but was advised to complete the test cycle before returning. The notice has since been dispatched to the Senate President, and Speaker, House of Representatives.
Mr. President expresses his sincere gratitude to Nigerians for their concern, prayers and kind wishes.
FEMI ADESINA
Special Adviser to the President
(Media and Publicity).”
The other media top gun of coordinate powers with Femi Adesina, Mallam Shehu Garba issued his own statement that he has
” TALKED TO BUHARI’S DOCTOR”
A social media analyst and commentator, Mr. Ena Ofugara quickly punched holes into Shehu’s statement by saying,
“Any doctor that discusses a patient’s illness will lose his license forever”.
“Who dares ask a doctor in the UK or US about their patient if you are not a stated family member or you are not the designated person with power of attorney?
Why would Buhari have Shehu Garba as the one with Power of Attorney? And why would the person not be in England to sign all necessary consent for procedures” according to
“HIPAA or Doctor Patient confidentiality”, he asked, then went on :
“Also, doctors never give “pat answers”. They never tell you “do not worry”. ”
He advises on reading about “therapeutic communication” as it pertains to medicine.
“I just spoke to the president’s personal doctor, and he told me President Buhari is not in any serious condition to worry about. He is not in hospital. He is in the residence at the Nigerian High Commission”.
“He and his delegation were ready to come home today but for the delayed test result which came in today which necessitated that he delays his return”.
“There is nothing to worry about as far as his condition is concerned”.
-Malam Garba Shehu.
Between these two media advisers, we have this :
Garba Shehu : test result late in arriving.
Femi Adesina : Buhari has to undergo more tests
Which one is the correct position?
In another development, the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, on Monday disclosed that he spoke with President Muhammadu Buhari earlier in the day to update him of developments regarding the 2017 Budget and the protests embarked upon by some Nigerians . He assured that the President is hale and hearty, adding that it is only Buhari that would disclose his health status to Nigerians at the appropriate time .
Osinbajo, who spoke with State House correspondents shortly after meeting behind closed doors with the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, said he was not in any way under pressure to resign.
Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, said “I spoke to him just this afternoon and we had a fairly long conversation, he is in good shape and very chatty,”
“especially with efforts aimed at taking the country out of recession.“

The Oasis Reporters believe that going by the analysis of events in this Buhari extended medical leave saga, the 74 year old Nigerian president may well be hale and hearty. He is simply running away from the exerting demands of office and probably wants to lie low hoping that Yemi Osinbajo may solve the critical and knotty issues of the economy his incompetent handling plunged the nation into before he strolls back in . He may not be in any acute danger of the unforseen.
Fear of the People’s backlash against his incompetence is driving him away on medical tourism. After all his Aso Rock Clinic gulps more money than 16 Nigerian university teaching hospitals put together by over 70 million naira.
Are there any tests that cannot be conducted there?
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have come out in their numbers to protest against the harsh economic conditions Nigerians were passing through and demanded good governance from the Buhari led administration. They noted that the government has not lived up to their campaign promises but have rather worsened the living conditions of the people. Their demonstrations took them to seats of governance in Aso Rock, Abuja and the Lagos State secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.
