‘…rumors of sack, nothing but gimmicks of mischief makers geared towards creating disharmony in the party’ – Joseph Abbey Aku

Ahead of the February 26th, 2022, Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency bye-election, candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Hon. Joseph Abbey Aku has in strong terms debunked rumors of threat to sack any Councillor in Jos North LGA who peradventure votes against APC during the election.

He said the rumor is nothing but gimmicks of mischief makers whose agenda are geared towards creating disharmony in the party.

Aku who spoke to Journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Jos, the state capital expressed confidence at winning the election.

He said: “I have been in the field going round and campaigning, and from the reports I am receiving, we are comfortable as a political party and candidate that we are going to win the election.

“I am not aware of any threat to Councillors by the All Progressive Congress, APC.
APC as a political party remains one family and I don’t think there is any threat on the political party as to force somebody to vote believing that I am capable and competent enough to rule.
The party has support from several angles and therefore threatening any voter is uncalled for.

“That is a mere rumor, those that actually left the party have made it known publicly and whoever is working against the party we have not received such report as a party and as a candidate”, Aku stated.

The APC flag bearer further maintained that, “Shortly after the run up that we had with Suleiman Kwande, the party chairman called me and the aspirants from Bassa LGA where we just sat down and he appealed to them of which they agreed to bring five members of their campaign team each so that we can form a robust campaign organization that would be all encompassing.

“I have engaged all religious organizations, I have been to Jos Central Mosque to address Ulama Council and I have been to different Church denominations requesting for their support.

“The Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency election happens to be one of the most sensitive elections on the Plateau. It is easier to contest Senatorial election in this zone than to contest for the House of Representatives because of the interest that is generated, and so truly if you want to consult your people you must have to work with all the faiths and ethnic nationalities because anything that happens in this Constituency affects the state.

“My major goal, objective and prayer is that this election will come and go peacefully without any rancour”, Aku concluded.
