The presence of President Muhammadu Buhari at today’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, was enough tonic to elicit thanksgiving prayers to God for his well-being.
The prayer session started with the Minister of Communications, Mr Adebayo Shittu, leading the Islamic session while the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige said the Christian version.
The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that the ministers thanked God for bringing the President back “in peace not in pieces’’.
While expressing hope that the President’s return would reinvigorate the cabinet and the nation’s economy, the ministers prayed for all Nigerians and for the country.
Soon after the prayers, Buhari received and rewarded the victorious D’Tigress players for winning the 2017 Women Afrobasket Tournament in Mali.
He announced one million naira donation for each of the players and N500, 000 for each of their officials.
President Buhari was meeting the whole members of the cabinet for the first time since his return to Abuja on August 19 after a three month plus medical vacation in London. And this was probably his first FEC meeting in over six months.
Buhari has spent two years and three months out of his four year tenure and presidents in the past had often tinkered with their cabinet, at the midway mark.
Will Buhari drop some of his ministers?
Very many analysts want him to, especially as very many ministers have displayed large doses of mediocrity in delivering democracy dividends to Nigerians.
