Watch her joyful tears here, as Nigeria’s National Anthem was being rendered:
Tobi Amusan tried hard not to cry singing the national anthem. She held the tears, but when that line: " the labour of our 'HEROES' past, shall never be in vain." It hit her…it dawned on her that she is now a HERO herself. The tears flowed😭😭🇳🇬🇳🇬pic.twitter.com/aMVlUhNe9h

Extremely proud of Tobi Amusan for winning the gold medal and breaking 100m hurdles world record. I said she broke the world record, displacing all the former record holders to clinch the top position.
Political Leaders rejoice with Tobi Amusan’s win. First, Peter Obi:
I sincerely congratulate Tobi Amusan on winning the 100M hurdles gold medal and setting a world record. Her tears at the ceremony podium while the Nigerian anthem played, connects that our dear country needs leaders to match the talents and ambitions of her youths.-PO

Here’s a message from Bola Ahmed Tinubu:
Congratulations to our new Track & Field superstar Tobi Amusan on becoming the new World Champion in the women's 100m hurdles; smashing the world record not once but twice in the process.

Born to parents who are both teachers, Tobi grew up in Ijebu Ode in Ogun State in Nigeria.
Stories like this inspire me. She reminds again that success is STRICTLY PERSONAL. Success is not location-specific.
In the same Nigeria where too many institutionalized inefficiencies hold many down, the determined are still forging ahead, breaking barriers and engraving their names in international history books.
Before you complain about Nigeria and its very many demons, remember that Tobi displaced other record holders trained in climes with the best of sporting infrastructure.
Remember that AFN is still in very bad shape and badly run. Remember she won even though Buhari is still Nigeria’s ruler. She didn’t wait for Buhari to fix Nigeria first before winning. If you read her story, you’d realise many times Nigeria happened to her, but she kept trudging on.
Lesson: Winning is the goal. Be determined to win in everything you set your hands upon. Winning is personal. Winning is the only thing that matters. This is the mindset of the victorious. And if you don’t have this mindset, success is still afar off from you. Just forget it and join APC!
