Courageous ex-Niger Delta Agitator, Asari Dokubo has braved the odds to openly speak about the rapacious military officers who are the big brains behind oil theft in the Niger Delta, yet sleekly use soft social media power to hang the blame on innocent Niger Delta Chiefs and people as culprits.
Asari Dokubo boldly said over 99 percent of oil theft in the country is carried out by the army and navy personnel, who struggle for postings from far off regions to stay put in the oil rich Niger Delta region in order to perpetrate one thing, steal oil while Niger Delta military officers are sent to strife torn north to face Boko Haram and other security challenges.
Speaking shortly after a private meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja on Friday, June 16, Dokubo also alleged that the people perpetuating oil bunkering in the Niger Delta region are powerful cabals most times operating from Abuja with the entitlement mentality.
He stated that the President has promised to investigate allegations of huge oil bunkering by notorious naval commanders that are kingpins, and promised to take decisive action to halt the shameful act that bleeds the nation’s economy, yet enriches private pockets.
The former militant leader argued that ordinary Niger Delta citizens who are often blamed for oil theft are not responsible, as they do not have the wherewithal to perform such sophisticated act of stealing.
According to him, “We discussed the issues of security and oil theft in the Niger Delta. Myself and my brothers assured Mr. President that there will be no more oil theft in the Niger Delta.
The military is at the centre of oil theft. 99 percent of oil theft can be traced to the Nigeria military, the army and the navy.
The army and navy intimidate the Civil Defence that have the responsibility to protect the oil facilities. The main culprits are the army and the navy.
There are notorious army commanders that are kingpins in the oil theft. The military men are busy stealing. The insurgents are harvesting from Nigeria military and police to further their criminality.
I volunteered to help to end this evil”
In another development, the Defence Headquarters is said to have challenged Asari Dokubo to provide proof by naming names of those navy officers alleged to be involved in oil bunkering.
That is the breaking aspect of the report.
