Rotimi Akeredolu won the election to become Ondo State by defying Asiwaju Bola Tinubu who backed another candidate, so rather than stay in the cold, he joined the cash strapped AD, quickly becoming it’s candidate and proceeding to trounce both the All Progressive Congress, APC and the People’s Democratic Party, PDP candidate on only a poster and social media based election.
Now with a sticking finger directed at the wide eyes of Tinubu, he wants to install governors after his own heart, especially those that Tinubu resents. One of them is Kayode Fayemi in Ekiti State.
Rotimi Akeredolu has allegedly channeled the sum of N2.27 billion into Fayemi’s campaign fund, source in the know have revealed to Premium Reporters, an online media organisation registered in the UK.
Dr. Fayemi is the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the July 14 governorship election in Ekiti State.
The $6.5 million (about N2.27bn), which was termed “First Commitment” was allegedly paid into Fayemi’s bank account in Accra, Ghana last week Friday.
The source disclosed that the cash was moved from the Ghana bank account of a friend of Governor Akeredolu’s wife, (the fair Igbo lady from Imo State governed by Rochas Okorocha, the only APC governor in the south east) popularly known in the Ondo State Government circle as “Money Man” to Fayemi’s account in ARB Apex Bank Limited, located on No. 5, 9th Road, Gamel Abdul Nasser Avenue, South Ridge, Accra.
“Aketi (Governor Akeredolu) is not leaving anything to chance on this Ekiti election. He wants to use it to prove a point to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu that without him, he became governor and that he is capable of installing others as governors too.
Despite denial that he did not promise to fund the governorship aspiration of Dr. Kayode Fayemi with two months allocation of his State, the Ondo State Governor was at the Fayemi inaugural campaign in Ado Ekiti when a policeman brought in from Lagos on an illegal duty with an APC chieftain who opened rifle fire and gunned down Fayemi’s co – contestant during the primary election, Bamidele Opeyemi (who lost out to the big money of Fayemi) and five others. They are all still recuperating in various hospitals.
“Even in Osun State, someone is already being sponsored to slug it out with Asiwaju’s anointed candidate.
“A budget of N5 billion has been made as the governor’s support for Fayemi and with over N2.2 billion already delivered, it is expected that another N2.8 billion will be made available in the last week of this month,” the source said.
Fayemi was reported to have presented a budget of N25 billion to President Muhammadu Buhari, through his Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari. About N5 billion was released to him for the primary election.
