The chances of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Ekiti State winning the forthcoming July 14 gubernatorial election received a further boost, Tuesday, as a formidable female group, Ekiti Women Emancipation (EWA) drummed support for Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Prof. Kolapo Olusola (Eleka) who is the preferred candidate of the state governor, Ayodele Fayose.
The group spoke through their Coordinator, Mrs. Adenike Adedayo on Tuesday at a meeting in Emure-Ekiti while reeling out aims and objectives of the group to the new members.
Mrs. Adedayo said Ekiti Women Emancipation has been in existence for the past one year, adding that it was established solely to liberate Ekiti women politically by promoting and enlightening them on the need for women to participate in politics.
She added that the group agreed to endorse Prof. Kolapo Olusola as her gubernatorial candidate because of the encouragement and recognition which Gov. Ayodele Fayose is giving to women in his government.
She said: “Of all governorship aspirants in Ekiti State now, Prof. Olusola is the most educated and the most humble person among them whom I can vouch for any day, anywhere because I know he will never disappoint Ekiti people if elected.
“We didn’t just throw our support behind the deputy governor, we had sampled opinions of Ekiti people before we adopted him as our candidate.
“Being a lecturer, Prof. Eleka is the type of person that the civil servants in the state will like working with, the teachers in the state will also be happy to have a governor who is also a teacher”.
She urged the new members to join the campaign train of Prof. Eleka as the group will soon begin proper tour in all the sixteen local governments of the state to sensitize women on the need to allow a certified builder to use his academic acumen to build on the existing structures in the state.
The Coordinator who was welcomed by a crowd of women in all the wards in Emure Local Government described Prof. Eleka as a complete gentleman who will never downplay the roles of women in nation building, she also charged the new members to see the professor as their candidate.
She went further to urge Ekiti people to give room for the continuity agenda of the state government, adding that Ekiti people have a lot to benefit from the continuity agenda.
After the meeting, members went round the town to sensitise people who are yet to register to ensure they get their Permanent Voter’s Card.
