There was an infectious air of utmost cordiality when former President Goodluck Jonathan received Labour Party Presidential candidate Peter Obi and his running mate, Yusuf Datti in audience at his home when they came on a courtesy visit.
President @GEJonathan received Dr Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed and I, last night. The visit was very cordial. We briefed him on the progress of our presidential campaign, and also exchanged views on several issues of national interest. Grateful for his time and wise counsel. -PO pic.twitter.com/NKUr8U4Dnk

At the time Goodluck Ebele Jonathan assumed office as President, Peter Obi then of APGA party had fought his way through the judicial system to reclaim his mandate that was stolen from him through the most brazen form of rigging perpetrated by the Peoples Democratic Party rigging machine in Anambra state led Mr. Uba who had installed Dr. Chris Ngige as the illegitimate governor of Anambra state.
Mr Uba was alleged to have demanded for the sum of 3 billion naira as compensation for writing a fake result and ensuring that the loser of the election was declared the winner over 17 years ago.
Because Uba and Chris Ngige fought dirty over money sharing leading to a sitting governor being for the first time in Nigeria history being kidnapped by criminal elements and forced to sign documents of financial transfer under duress, the truth of the PDP rigging machinery was revealed openly by a frustrated Dr. Ngige and the courts used the self confusion as evidence to nullify the election and swear Mr. Peter Obi in.
Jonathan and Obi later gave each other unqualified friendship and cooperation while in office.
Under Obi as Governor who promoted private enterprise in Anambra state, Jonathan ordered that the seized moulds of a new automobile manufacturing company, Innoson Automotive Plant at Nnewi, Anambra State be released to the owners when he learned that a previous administration had seized the molds due to the unbelief that a black man could successfully build a motor manufacturing company singlehandedly.

It was Goodluck Jonathan who commissioned the factory during his first year as President of the federal republic of Nigeria in 2010.
Even when Peter Obi completed his tenure as Governor, he joined president Goodluck Jonathan’s administration as an economic expert and it is on record that the administration performed excellently well in ensuring that inflation rate never exceeded a single digit ceiling. Food was cheap and Nigeria, except the north east region that was principally governed by the All Progressive Congress (APC) was very secure at the time the north east States where suffering the most brazen form of religious upheavals in the most severe forms of insecurity that involved kidnappings of school girls who were turned into sex slaves in the thick forests of Sambisa and other unpenetrated jungles in the ineffectively governed region under the APC.
Yet some prominent northern politicians in the PDP stabbed Goodluck Jonathan in the back because they were incensed that the president was going for a second constitutionally allowed second and final tenure of four years. The power hungry politicians mostly from the north sabotaged the PDP and cross carpeted to the APC who then won the vote and Goodluck Jonathan graciously conceded, then quit office.
Ever since then, the Nigerian economy has failed. Inflation rate has astronomically risen to double digits. Investments have fled, insecurities have risen while universities remain closed while lecturers have abandoned the country to teach in Universities abroad except a few who have no means to flee.
Those same politicians who stabbed the PDP in the back, including Atiku Abubakar, Aminu Tambuwal, Bukola Saraki and others have long retreated their steps back to the same PDP that they destroyed and have remained power hungry ever since, trying hard to battle for the soul of the party by changing the party constitution to enable them turn the south into second class status, denying the region it’s turn to run for the presidency so that the northern politicians can perpetually remain eternal candidates.

L-R: Unsmiling Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal; former Kwara state governor who is also former Senate President, Bukola Saraki; Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki; Muhammed Hayatu-Deen, and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Muhammed, during a visit by PDP presidential aspirants to Governor Obaseki, in Benin City, on Monday, April 4th, 2022. The quartet from the north had one mission. Get Southern stakeholders to upturn their insistence on zoning the presidential ticket to the South in the spirit of equity. They succeeded, but after getting the ticket back to the north, the party imploded. PDP is now shaken to the roots.
This has consequently torn the PDP into pieces with it’s age old unity in shreds. Mostly young Nigerians who have fed up with the shenanigans of the power hungry politicians in the PDP have been the driving force behind the unprecedented reception of Peter Obi and the Labour Party, spreading their message of redemption and rescue of the nation from the cabals who see Nigeria as a cow that they can milk to death.
Thus, Jonathan receives Obi with beaming smiles because of the hope embodied in the message that the former Anambra state Governor brings.
The old party junketing PDP returnee politicians also visit Jonathan in the hopes of forgiveness and rehabilitation. Yet he receives them and even buys them soft drinks and offers them kolanuts in the traditional Nigerian way of welcome. But the mirth and conviviality is usually missing to the eyes of keen observers, going by photo evidence.
