One time Aviation minister in Nigeria’s cabinet and leading opposition figure, Femi Fani-Kayode, has rapped President Muhammadu Buhari, over his response to the Benue flood that has rendered many homeless by calling it “weak and pathetic”.
He tweeted: “Nothing reflects the cruelty and insensitivity of @MBuhari more than his weak and pathetic response to the Benue flood where many have died.”
Meanwhile, the presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, had said the President was closely monitoring the situation, and will be receiving regular updates on the scale of the disaster, as well as the Federal Government’s humanitarian response.
“The President extends his sympathies to the Government and people of Benue State, and assures that the Federal Government will make available any assistance needed to enable the State Government and the affected communities cope with and surmount the impact of the flooding,” he added.
Buhari has equally directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), to immediately mobilize personnel and resources to come to the aid of the victims of the flooding.
While Makurdi, capital city of Benue state on the same contiguous belt with Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal capital territory was submerged in water, president Buhari flew up north to his home town of Daura in Katsina state for the Muslim feast of Eid.
