The pressures mounted by the ECWA President, Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Gado, sources say have paid off as Engr. Simput Dafup and one other who were arrested three weeks ago in Jos, and detained in Abuja by the Department of State Securities (DSS) for allegedly converting a Muslim girl have been freed without conditions.
This follows several efforts by the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to secure his release by pressures mounted on the Director General of the DSS until he agreed to release Engr. Dafup and his co-detainee who were arrested for converting one Miss Nabila Sanda Galadima, daughter to a renowned northeast businessman. The duo arrived Jos yesterday at about 9pm in company of the CAN Northern Chairman, Rev. Yakubu Pam who signed his bail form, and other Christian leaders.
He was thus reunited with his family amidst cheers.
Special prayers were offered for his health and safety after which he was taken to an undisclosed location where he is expected to undergo medical examination.
The case filed by Barr. Prof. Francis Kwede of the university of Jos in regards to his arrest is expected to be heard at the Jos Federal High Court this week.
Why should a state security arm travel outside their chain of command and get involved in religious personal issues that has nothing to do with criminal intent if there is no religious persecution in Nigeria? Many have asked.
