Guaranty Trust Bank Is An Institution That Should Be Allowed It’s Space: My Relationship With The Institution

My relationship with Guaranty Trust Bank started a few years ago when circumstances in my life turned my feet onto blogging, and a life as a blogger.

Well, back then, the business of blogging was a frontiers one. I could not help but get into it to ensure that I took care of my responsibilities, having won a battle for life from the hospital on the back of a long period of trying to get well, and another battle to stand on my feet.

In order to realize my pet dream, the first step was to ensure that I became a Google AdSense partner.

One of the requirements was that I open a domiciliary account and all the banks that I contacted insisted that I must pay a deposit of $100 which would be in my account at all times.

I didn’t even have any money on me then. Like I said, I was in and out of hospitals for a long time.

Then I chanced on Guaranty Trust Bank, the only bank that would not need any starting deposit. So I fulfilled all the requirements from my international passport presentation to a passport photograph and all the other requirements that other banks equally ask for or require.

The only other small request I noticed was that I may need a current account as well as a savings account in addition to the domiciliary account. All for my own convenience as a customer. All the accounts actually have the same digits, except the last two figures to differentiate one type of account from the other. That was all!

It was actually okay as a business model. GTB became the toast of everyone in the new digital economy and it helped to boost their account base.

What it meant was that each time I would have an inflow of dollars, getting the naira equivalent for it was as easy as clockwork. At my request, a buyer of the dollars I may have simply makes the transfer and so, It is very okay.

For someone to now address the press trying to demonize the no. 27 Bank in the top 100 banks in Africa rankings is very sad.

Let it not be construed to mean that the country is not business friendly and that those who do things in a legal way can get into trouble because there are a few misunderstandings somewhere.

It was only recently that the hairs on Aliko Dangote’s head was believed to be graying more than it used to be because of certain worries that he would build a multi billion dollars Refinery and yet have problems trying to get Crude oil in a country practically in barrels on rafts of it floating on its waters!

Segun Agbaje and his progressive team should be encouraged to grow, and not be under any severe threat because his model is slightly different from what other people believe it should be.
