How Do We Force Politicians To Listen, Look Beyond The Glitter Of Office And Believe That Power Is Transient?

Ali Bongo, marched out of the presidential palace in Gabon.
Rigging took him to the palace. But could not sustain his stay there.

Gabon, a central African country, is rich in natural resources. Located on the Atlantic Ocean, it borders Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, and the Republic of Congo. It is sparsely populated, with a population of 2.3 million (2021) and forests covering 88% of its territory.

For the past 53 years, Gabon was ruled by a greedy single family called Bongo who died and his son President Ali Bongo Ondimba, took over, even won a re-election by 60% as a stroke and bed ridden patient which the opposition condemned.

The military declared the result of the election as fake in the broadcast, the military officer said the election results would be voided and the country’s borders would be shut.

“All the institutions of the republic are dissolved: in particular the government, the Senate, the National Assembly, the Constitutional Court, Economic and Social and Environmental Council, and the Elections Council of Gabon,” the officer said.

This is a lesson for all Africa countries as all eyes are on Cameroon which has been ruled by two Presidents since 1961 by Ahmadu Ahidjo and Paul Biya who was recently stoned in France for celebrating 40 years as President of Cameroon.

The politicians who steal their nations blind would not want to relinquish office even when they lose elections out of the fear that the thievery they orchestrated would be exposed.

But such concealment that not only impoverishes the nation, harbours in itself grave danger for the offending politician because nothing is really hidden.

What astonishes the most is that in all of the thievery, the perpetrators have not the faintest idea of how to use money. It is scary that nations are being caught up in an age of fools.

What does the thief who steals do with money?
He buys things.

Then he buys power and more power. He traumatizes his community with his wealth, he makes the poor feel their poverty and the average person bemoan his averageness. Then he builds things: some big towers here and there which becomes the talking points of lesser persons whose place in life is to praise those structures even as they hope to build the same, someday.

He then goes after women, all shapes sizes, tribes and tongues . For the sole reason of being able to boast about his conquest.

Then he gets honoured by religious homes devoted to Mammon where he gets praised by the worshippers of the idol there who promise the money-man life hereafter for a slice of his goodies. Then he dies in hopes that people will be talking about him. Soon he is forgotten like other fools.

Why do we people find it hard to understand the use and meaning of big money and are stuck on this selfish, perverted notion of wealth?

The challenge is not money, it is a lack of the knowledge of what actually to do with it. Where people have wisdom, they understand that once possessions go beyond a home and two cars with ample retirement fund, the use of money is to build your community and to build your nation.
