At a time when Anambra State governor, Professor Charles Soludo was announcing that the 20 million dollars Peter Obi invested on behalf of Anambra State in Sabmiller group when he was governor of the state “is worth 100 million dollars and from today Anambra State owns the highest share in the global company”. The State was number 15 during the time of investment, the media is awash with images of sacks of branded Tinubu Rice being distributed to voters in Nasarawa state.

The strategic timing of the distribution of the bags of rice is noteworthy. Politicians are gathering to endorse their presidential candidates towards the presidential election coming up in the first quarter of next year 2023.

It coincidentally happens that Nassarawa state is a food producing state, a people who do not need to beg for food, but are quite capable of selling food to other states if the freedom and security needed are provided for them to get unfettered access to their farmlands.

Is it free food that they now need because elections are at hand?
What happened to free food long before election and what happens to free food after the election is over ?

Both Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and Peter Gregory Obi of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are putting their case forward before delegates and showcasing facts to prove their eligibility before votes are cast.

The choice is before the voters. That is the free food giving versus the profitable investment option, selling their unique points.

Peter Obi did not borrow to leave his State overburdened with debt. Government over borrowing has plunges many states into unmitigated poverty today, with workers salaries not being paid and debts being transferred to the next generation of children to pay. This also refers to the reckless borrowing of the Federal Government which is slowing down development and grounding social services.

Nigeria thus needs rescue, not by choosing leaders who would further deepen the country’s burden.
