Ibori U-19 Cup Finals: Ndokwa East Takes Silver As Ethiope West Grabs Gold

Ndokwa East representatives, Delta Strikers FC from Aboh,the local government headquarters have emerged second in the just concluded Chief James Ibori U-19 football tournament held at Oghara township stadium.

The team had won all their group matches played at the Kwale stadium after beating Ndokwa West, Ika North East and Aniocha North to top the group before proceeding to the finals.
In the semi final game, they whitewashed Aniocha North FC 4-0 to set the stage for a final clash with Ethiope East giants, Oghara FC.

In the finals though they gave a good account of themselves as Delta North Champions, they however lost to their opponents as a result of fatigue and loss of concentration.

The tournament which was sponsored by SYDA Nigeria Ltd, Asaba is to promote youth sports development in football academies across the state.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the state Governor Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa thanked the Organizers for putting up this kind of tournament describing it as competitive which will go a long way in developing the youths in their football career noting that the idea will help in discovering young talents for the various academies across the state and Nigeria.He added that at this stage, our football in Nigeria will have a bright future as he has witnessed a true age grade tournament.

On hand to lend support was the chief host and former Governor of the State, Chief James Onanefe Ibori who was a delight to watch as he stepped out to take the kick off before the commencement of the final game which was highly explosive.

Ethiope West emerged Champions after beating hard fighting Ndokwa East representatives, Delta Strikers FC.
The winners, Ethiope West went home with a cash prize of #500,000 naira while Ndokwa East went home as 1st runner up with #300,000 naira. Meanwhile 3rd placed Patani L.G.A and 4th placed Aniocha North LGA went home with no prizes as fans condemned the organizers asking them to provide consolation prizes for the last two finalists in the next edition.

All the clubsides are from Delta state in Nigeria’s South – South region, a breeding ground for sporting talents in over fifty years of the country’s history.
