Emmanuel Ogebe (second left) at a US Congressional hearing on the activities of Boko Haram terrorists in northern Nigeria, which led to it’s designation as a terror organization.

Leading Nigerian born human rights lawyer in the United States has openly reacted to the false and wild claim that the United States Agency for International Development, (USAID) is funding the Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria’s north East.

The Boko Haram islamists insurgency has laid to waste the lives and means of livelihoods of several thousands of Christians in the north east as well as other parts of the north region, which has been festering.

Many innocent Nigerians in northern Nigeria have been in Internally Displaced People’s Camps (IDPs) who are not only Christians and many Muslims as well when Boko Haram terrorists lay waste to their villages, steal their food stuff, animals etc and lay waste to their habitations.

An overwhelmed and under resourced Nigerian military has been struggling desperately to contain the insurgency which has not only spread widely in the vast northern region of Nigeria, but also all over West Africa. The Boko Haram insurgency has gone further by affiliating itself with Al-queda Iswap and other international global terrorists organizations.

Many northern Nigerian Christian school girls have been kidnapped enmasse and taken into forests where they are used as sex slaves and sometimes brainwashed and forced to strap suicide bomb belts on themselves which are detonated remotely to cause maximum damage to markets, religious gatherings and even government offices that has included United Nations offices in their bid to force everyone into accepting that “Western education is forbidden in Islam.

Such wild claims by Rep. Perry has fueled instances that led to the loss of political power by former Nigerian president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan who was defeated in the general election that led to his exit in 2015.

Rights lawyer Emmanuel Ogebe says to Rep. Scott Perry that “your lies are endangering your people in Nigeria for petty propaganda”.

He further states:

Dear Rep Scott Perry,

Your statement claiming USAID funds Boko Haram terrorists has sent shockwaves through Nigeria and elicited targeting of innocent Christians and Aid workers because of your baseless claims.

To make matters worse, you have further endangered hundreds of American diplomats in one of the largest U.S. embassies in the world many of whom already lost their jobs due to the vampiric shutdown by lawless non-state actors in DC.

You may not know this but I evacuated along with hundreds of American diplomats from Nigeria after a bomb was planted in a US embassy compound in Abuja by Islamist terrorists. They and their families were internationally displaced for months before returning in early 2023 to Nigeria. For you to make such false and unfounded allegations, right after Musk’s admission that USAID’s $50 million condoms used for bombings by Hamas terrorists was untrue, irresponsibly jeopardizes the security of American diplomats and their families, local Christians and aid workers in Nigeria.

It is also a slap in the face to several of your house colleagues who have courageously traveled with me on bipartisan fact finding CODELs visiting victims of persecution and Boko Haram terrorism.

“I hope you will quickly repudiate your false claim regarding Boko Haram before anyone gets hurt. No political propaganda or showboating is worth putting Americans lives at risk abroad for a lie”.

Signed: Emmanuel Ogebe
