Delta State Labour Party gubernatorial candidate, Deacon Ken Kawharhiebie Pela and the deputy governorship candidate, Prof. (Mrs) Julie Nwabogo Umukoro have in a project tagged Pela-Nwabogo ’23 moved by reaching out to sympathetic Deltans to join hands with them in easing the pains and agony that man and nature had inflicted on their Delta brothers and sisters across a vast area of the state.
In the face of the numerous devastating stories that arose from the recent high floods in the state, they rolled up their sleeves and quickly assessed the extent and degree of damage, and came to the realisation that it was worse than anyone could have imagined.
They immediately swung to action by first committing themselves to a wide relief effort and set out to meet the affected people at their deepest moment of despair. They also brought with them some ray of hope for a better future.
According to Deacon Ken Pela, “I am very surprised that no proper plans were made in advance to cater for this flooding crisis.”
Deacon Ken Pela spoke to the press, saying that “there was an advance notice of this impending calamity, and we expected that the Emergency Support Agencies in the state would have been fully activated.
“No responsible state government would leave its people stranded like this; leaving them to suffer in the face of adequacy.”
The presence of Deacon Ken Pela in the company of his Deputy brought a lot of joy and a ray of hope to light up the faces of the people at various IDP and non-IDP camps across the state.
In addition, they delivered various food commodities, environmental and cleaning materials with cash support to ease the pains of the people. “We hope and pray that both the Federal and State government would do everything within their powers to bring succour to these unfortunate Deltans that are suffering from an uncertahin future.”
