In condemning the reported killing of over 100 people in Plateau State and more than 20 individuals in Benue State has been described as “horrific and unacceptable” by a former governor of Anambra State who is also a frontline People’s Democratic Party, PDP Presidential aspirant in the forthcoming 2023 general election, Peter Obi.
Easily one of the best governors ever to preside over a state in Nigeria, Peter Obi added that “such violence questions the government’s responsibility to protect lives and properties. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims of these wicked acts.

“As a nation, we cannot be insensitive to the ongoing bloodletting and targeting of the most vulnerable and helpless in our society. Security measures must be proactive and holistic, more so in areas close to ungoverned rural and urban communities.
Even though Nigeria’s president, retired Gen. Muhammadu Buhari has equally condemned the crime in the media, many commentators opine that the government is lethargic when it comes to Security matters especially if it comes to banditry, kidnappings, murder etc largely carried it in the north and middle belt by people suspected to be roaming Fulani militias in the bush.
“Nigeria must cease being a killing field. These numbers are human beings and loved ones of many families”, Peter Obi concluded in his statement.
The issue of insecurity is expected to take center stage in ongoing debates across the country, in this season leading up to the elections to be held in 2023.
