Lakurawa’s Greatest Undoing That Drew The Attention Of Trump’s America Who Came In ‘Guns Ablazing’

The Lakurawa jihadists insurgent group’s greatest undoing was perhaps affiliating itself to ISIS, classified as a terrorists outfit by the United States of America, thus upgrading itself from it’s primary status of just a vigilante group that indigenous Hausa natives had invited as a counterpoise against the suffering that they were tolerating from the oppression of the Fulani overlords.
The north of Nigeria has been a huge comedy of errors which started with the numerically superior Hausa empires that had unimaginatively corrupt Kings who ate at the underbelly of society which a savvy jihadists, Uthman dan Fodio read and exploited to overthrow the empires and install his emirate system.
That put the minority Fulani tribesmen as overlords, over the overwhelming Hausa population in their homeland.
The next comedy of errors was in the unbridled wicked rulership of the new overlords. Their belief was that intimidation, harsh rulership, a lack of justice for the rightful owners of the land, albeit a conquered people was all that was needed to continue the domination forever.
Unlike the colonialism of the British in Hong Kong that improved lives and built the economy of Hong Kong to World class standards.
Therefore when the agreement between China and Britain over Hong Kong lapsed after 150 years, China was full of eulogies for the British, pledging to retain One China, two economic systems.
What about the ordinary Hong Kong people?
They cried and didn’t want the British to go. Some multimillionaires even followed the British back to Britain.
Contrast it with Fulani colonialism in Hausa land where lamentations fill the air all the time.
Under the oppression of the Fulani ethnic militia, Hausa secretly contracted the Lakurawa vigilante to come in and free them from the banditry of the Fulani.
And who are the Lakurawa that interrupted the Fulani herdsmen militia to give the Hausa some respite for a while?
The Lakurawa is an ethnically diverse jihadist insurgent group primarily composed of individuals from across the Sahel region. While they are often associated with pastoralist communities, the group includes members from several distinct ethnic groups:
It includes the Fulani: Many members speak Fulfulde (the Fulani language) and are often perceived by local communities as Fulani pastoralists.
Tuareg: The group includes fighters of Tuareg descent, reflecting its transnational origins in the Sahel.
Hausa: Locally recruited members and those from the broader region include the Hausa ethnic group.
Zabarmawa (Zarma): Fighters from this group, predominantly found in Niger and Mali, are also part of the insurgency.
Other Sahelian Groups: The group’s ranks also include individuals from Arab, Bambara (Barbanci), and Kanuri backgrounds.
Origins and Languages
The Lakurawa originated from countries such as Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, and Mauritania. Due to their diverse membership, they communicate in multiple languages including Fulfulde, Hausa, Arabic, Zabarmanci, and Azbinanci (a Tuareg dialect). Their name is believed to be a Hausa adaptation of the French word les recrues, meaning “the recruits”.
This was purely a mercenary group that hired itself for vigilante services, but read the room of the insurgencies of the wider Islamist world and affiliated itself to ISIS.
Donald J Trump saw it at a time that Lakurawa had nearly succeeded in checkmating the excesses of the Fulani herdsmen militia.
Time to go, the Hausas told the group. After all the assignment of pushing back the Fulani herdsmen militia was done and dusted.
Unfortunately, the Fulani controlled the politics of northern Nigeria. They are mostly the governors of the States. The political leaders unfortunately did not have the savvy intelligence of fairness to all in keeping with their oath of office. Many of them seemed to have aligned their support for the militia that speaks their language and follows their culture.
It is this same culture that is often taken to the presidency, as some of the backers of whosoever is in power. Therefore when ministers are being chosen from the north, they are often always chosen from the Fulani ethnic group. The Hausa are mostly ignored because a Southern president may not have the initial full blown knowledge of the people beyond their given Islamic names. Unless he reads deeply.
When the Lakurawa refused to go, they saw the ground in Sokoto and Zamfara States as fertile. Mining minerals like gold, tantalite, uranium and others, necessary products needed in the modern economy and being legally and illegally mined by the Chinese and other foreigners who would also need the protection and enforcement that the Fulani militia were providing. The Lakurawa moved in to fill in the gap.
They could also continue to exact tribute from farmers to keep their own lifestyle running.
Hausas had come full cycle, from exterminations in villages because the foreign mining executives needed access to certain villages who had precious minerals under their soil. That was one of the factors behind the unbridled massacres between the Fulani militia and the indigenous Hausa natives.
Trump saw all that and in bombing the Lakurawa who had resisted the move to go, two things had happened.
If there are precious minerals, the militia had to be taken out from the skies and recouping the initial security costs of putting the recalcitrant armed bandits to flight is a done deal. Nigerians had a peaceful Christmas without the intimidating bombing of Churches, for the first time in years. Fear had traded places. The bandits are in stupefying shock and mosques are also freer. Bandits or terrorists are now largely on the run, either in the north west or north east. Even the middle belt (north Central) has a little respite, unlike what it used to be before.
But a few skirmishes may still be occuring.
