With less than two weeks to the end of his tenure, Plateau State governor, Simon Bako Lalong has moved to commission some completed projects initiated by his administration in the state capital.

The governor who commissioned the projects in Jos, expressed his administration’s commitment to deliver on the dividends of democracy to the people.

He appealed to the people of the State to give the incoming administration the support they accorded him during his tenure especially in the area of peace and security which is very crucial to any development.

Speaking while commissioning the remodeled Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Center in Jos, Lalong expressed the hope that the incoming administration will also carry the people along and shun any divisive tendencies that could disrupt continuity in governance.

In his words, “Today is a historic day in the history of Plateau State and that of the APC-led Rescue Administration as we commission some of the projects we have executed over the years. These projects cutting across various sectors are of significance to the people and have impact on their lives.”

“You will recall that our administration has been guided by the policy vision anchored on Peace, Security and Good Governance; Infrastructural Development and Sustainable Economic Rebirth. Since morning we have been commissioning projects in the northern senatorial zone which flows along the rescue vision and are critical to the progress of the State.”

Lalong said “Some of the projects we commissioned are the Riyom General Hospital; the Water Treatment Plant Riyom; the Kuru Ginery; the Mineral House Bukuru; the Legacy Primary School Bukuru; the NewMap project at Chononpong; the Creche at the State Secretariat; the Modern Printing Press at the Nigerian Standard; the Polo-Roundabout, Rwang Pam road network; the Nassarawa Pediatric Hospital; the security outpost in Haske Quarters as well as the Construction equipment at Fursa among others.”

In his words “Without doubt, these are projects that focus on education, security, economy and general well-being of the people. We have through the unveiling of these projects demonstrated that our administration understands the needs of the people and has done its best to meet them according to the available resources.”

He also added that ” As you would have noted, some of these projects were initiated by our administration while others were part of those abandoned by previous administrations which we decided to continue with.”

” It is our firm conviction that projects started with the people’s money must not be allowed to decay because of political differences and personal ego.”

“Unfortunately, we have noticed overtime that some people who prefer to politicise everything including development have twisted our intention in order to score cheap political goals. They claim without evidence that our administration has not done any project. However, the unveiling of these projects vindicates us and speaks volumes, contrary to the blackmail and propaganda against our government.”

Lalong also added that ” As we bow out of office, we are not perturbed by those insinuations because the people of Plateau State know the work we have done and we know that posterity will judge us kindly. I urge the people to look after these projects because they are for the benefit of the general public and not the government or any individual.”

He thanked the people of Plateau State for giving him their mandate and supporting him to do as much as he has done in the last 8 years.”

According to him ‘ Without their support and cooperation, we could not have achieved any success that we are celebrating at this commissioning event.”

Lalong who lauded Journalists in the state for their support, said newsmen on the Plateau also deserve special commendation for the support they have given us throughout our administration. Without your positive and critical reportage, we couldn’t have been able to receive feedback from the public on what we are doing right and areas we needed to improve upon.”

“Such partnership is what pushed me to embark on the reconstruction and upgrading of the Plateau NUJ State Secretariat which was donated to the union by the administration of Chief Solomon Lar.

“We believe that journalists who are very crucial to the sustenance of democracy should operate from a befitting facility that gives them the capacity to inform, educate and sensitise the people.”

The Governor also appealed to the media to continue to discharge their duties with every sense of patriotism, diligence and responsibility for the peace, progress and well-being of the society.

Lalong also condemned the attacks on innocent people in Mangu where many people were killed stressing that the security agencies are on the trail of the attackers and pledged never to allow them go unpunished.
