Lalong Expresses Shock, Sadness At The Accident Involving Some Plateau PDP Supporters. Party Suspends Campaign

Governor Simon Bako Lalong has expressed shock and sadness over an accident involving some supporters of the PDP in Plateau State in which some lives were lost and injuries recorded.

 

 



The accident was said to have occured in Jwak village, Panyam in Mangu Local Government while the supporters were said to be returning from a Zonal campaign rally of the party in Pankshin.




Governor Lalong while commiserating with the families of the victims and those who sustained injuries described the tragic event as a huge loss to the State.




He also sympathised with the PDP family in the State as well as its gubernatorial candidate Barr. Caleb Mutfwang over the sad incident, praying that God will grant eternal rest to those who lost their lives and prayed for a quick recovery to those who sustained injuries.



Meanwhile the governor has appealed for caution among motorists and supporters of political parties and politicians during the electioneering period where vehicular movement is heightened across the State and the country at large.




He urged them to put safety first and observe road safety regulations to minimise cases such as this.




In another development, Plateau State PDP has expressed deep sadness over the accident that claimed the lives of some of their followers.


A total number of 16 people are now confirmed dead following Saturday’s truck accident along Pushit – Panyam road.




The latest report by the medical team of the PDP Campaign Council shows that as of Sunday morning, all cases are stable and responding to treatment – including the two cases that were critical on Saturday.




The Jos University Teaching Hospital is currently managing 24 cases; Nisi Domino’s hospital in Mangu 20 cases; Infinity Hospital, Mangu 8 cases; Cottage Hospital Mangu 4 cases; Panyam Clinic 8 cases. The cases at Allah na Kowa in Mangu have all been transferred to JUTH.




In all, there are 64 patients presently receiving treatment.

As at the time of going to press, families have started claiming and performing the burial rites of their loved ones.



The gubernatorial candidate of the PDP, Barr Caleb Mutfwang has asked his team to provide every assistance possible to the grieving families.




He has also suspended all campaign activities as a mark of respect to the victims.




Teams of party and campaign council officials from the secretariats , the zones and local governments have been deployed to be with many family members in this moment of grief.




Barr Mutfwang has expressed immense sadness at the losses and called the victims, “heroes of our democracy.”
