Loquacity And The Man: How Can Akpabio Be Given Goodluck And He Picks Bad Luck?

Senator Godswill Akpabio, former PDP governor of Akwa Ibom State. He failed his reelection bid to the Senate under the APC

In Senator Godswill Akpabio’s hey days as governor of Crude-oil rich Akwa Ibom State his image loomed very large and he tried very hard to diminish the influence and relevance of his benefactor and predecessor, Obong Victor Attah. Indeed, he succeeded. People hardly hear of Victor Attah these days.

As a PDP governor, he admonished his people to vote for Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. “How can they give you Goodluck and you choose bad luck” ?
Everyone chuckled and PDP felt that indeed they had a compatriot in Akpabio. Unfortunately, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan lost his reelection bid in 2015.

Then Godswill Akpabio finished his second and final term before proceeding to the Senate. Despite being a first timer in the Senate, ranking PDP senators rallied round and made him the minority leader. This was because of the respect accorded him as an influential former governor. But then the man he referred to as “bad luck”, General Muhammadu Buhari had become President.

With fickle minded political chieftains, faithfulness, consistency and reliability do not count. What matters most is personal ambition or enlightened self interest.

The PDP realized rather too late that honouring Godswill Akpabio with the exalted position of Minority Party Leader was a huge gamble. No doubt about it, the former governor actually worked, and he actually spent money, but many swore that he misappropriated far too much, a task that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC sought to unravel.

While at it, Akpabio designed his own survival plan. After all, once you flee to the All Progressive Congress, APC, your sins would be no more. You’d be as white as the sky, when it is white. But in fleeing to the APC, he was going to meet the very unhappy people he chased out of the PDP. They would open their teeth at him, but won’t smile.
Secondly, Akpabio would contend with delivering Akwa Ibom State for Buhari, amidst the stiff opposition of the teeming masses that felt robbed and betrayed by Akpabio.

Unaware of the contending factors trailing his defection and betrayal of the PDP, Akpabio opened his mouth rather too wide as recorded:

AKPABIO’S ALLEGED WORDS ON MARBLE

“If I fail to deliver 90% of the local governments for APC, if I die, don’t bury me in Ukana my village”

“I can confidently tell you that election in Akwa Ibom will last for 3 hours. In fact, I will make sure that APC wins at all level within three hours”

“PDP died the day I left them. Chai, Mbom PDP (I pity PDP) yes, I pity them, especially Udom. I put him there him and I will remove him(He cried mockingly and raised a song) Kop ntuagha ke PDP, Kop ntuagha ke PDP. Akpabio asio ukot Udom onyong idung, kop ntuagha ke PDP” (meaning Listen as they weep in PDP, See as they weep in PDP, when Akpabio raises his leg, immediately, Udom relocate to his village)

“If my gateman disobeys me, do you expect me to start to exchange words with my gateman? God forbid. I will just sack him straight away. By the time I finish with PDP, they will know I am Akpabio.”

Well, he seems to have failed resoundingly. Akwa Abasi Ibom people have said, ‘O to ge’ ,It Is Enough to Akpabio. Unable to deliver Akwa Ibom to Buhari, he is now worth much less to Buhari. He does not need him anymore. Neither does the PDP. It is unlikely that the dreaded EFCC watch dog would remove it’s teeth it had started to sink into the man’s leg. He will soon know that Buhari hates betrayers.
