Mali’s Transitional Govt: How Goodluck Jonathan Pulled It Off And The Accolades That Followed

The Oasis Reporters

September 26, 2020

Goodluck Jonathan (right) with some leaders in Mali.

When all hopes seemed to have been lost with the military coup in Mali and the refusal of the overthrown president to go back to office, it was like a win-win situation for the coupists. But Nigeria’s former President with huge Democratic credentials thought otherwise as leader of ECOWAS mediation team in Mali. He and his team resolutely insisted on a new Transitional Government before a general election, rather than surrendering to the military.

Hear him on Twitter:

And Twitteratis went agog with reactions.

This is awarding coupists. #Ecowas once again has demonstrated that they’re a toothless bulldog. The army should have no business in politics and should not be rewarded for their criminal act. There should be zero tolerance for coups and coup leaders should not be rewarded.

Mali’s coup back then.

A very BIG congratulations to you and your fellow intervention team members for pulling off this huge success. You and the team once again have shown the importance and influence of ECOWAS in resolving sensitive issues like this.

Congratulations to Malians and a big congratulations to you and your team for a job well done, @GEJonathan, I admire your resilience, Steadfastness and determination. You are a definition of a true leader, at the start it looked impossible, when all gains seemed to have been destroyed by the military.

When they took over the government and turned down every offer, you were not discouraged, rather you kept on pushing even in the face of impossibilities, thank you sir for staying through, because of this success of yours, you have given me every reason not to give up, no matter what.

By your name alone, you stand in the pantheon of those who exemplify courage and good character. How can I forget the name “Balarabe Musa” and what it means to progressive Nigerians? It takes a man of courage to express regret. You’re in good company and I salute you sir!

Don’t bet on it, brother. They were determined to sabotage his rule. If APC failed in 2015, PMB would have been a mythical saint whose grave would be a pilgrimage site to millions. God does his work for a reason. GEJ has a new calling & he’s on good grounds to the glory of God. Oslo baby!

Congratulations sir, we are looking forward to the day ECOWAS will look into the ordeal Biafrans are suffering in the hand of this agent of devil in Nigeria and add their voice to convene a referendum for us. I’m glad the continent is enjoying what the blind Nigeria rejected in you.

to restrict African Presidents to a 2 term tenure as well as sanctions for bad governance…
