I understand that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC invested 1 Billion Naira of Nigeria’s hard earned money on the Senator Dino Melaye Recall from the Senate project while the cash strapped Kogi state coughed out on it’s part, a whopping 5 Billion Naira to make a grand total of Six billion Naira, just to withdraw one individual from the Senate who has just about one year left of his four year tenure in the green chamber.

This is happening because of his personal spat with the governor of Kogi State, the youthful and exuberant Yahaya Bello.
It is worthy of note that Yahaya Bello was not a contestant in the Kogi State governorship election. He only ran in the gubernatorial primaries where he was runner-up to the eventual winner, Prince Abubakar Audu.
Audu went on to defeat the incumbent governor and candidate of the PDP, Capt. Idris Wada but at the verge of announcing the final result tally, the winner slumped and died while having lunch.

The electoral law called on the runner up to come over and inherit the governorship seat as an inheritance, and ever since, Governor Yahaya Bello has demonstrated that he is not prepared for governance at all.

Many civil servants have unfortunately committed suicide in Kogi State, because governor Bello has owed them wages for about two years, and despite bail-out funds from the Federal government, he remains resolute in keeping the people in penury.

The opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP has reacted to the recall saga of the Kogi West Senatorial district incumbent senator, Dino Melaye, by describing Governor Yahaya Bello as “heartless” and lamented that the “over N5 billion would have paid at least two months salary of workers in Kogi State”.

What has become the expected end of this democracy of waste ?

To recall that the experiment ended with monumental failure makes it a sad commentary on the political life of short sighted officials.
