Nigeria’s Festering Security Crisis: How Goodluck Jonathan Dealt With It And Almost Crushed Boko Haram

Dr. Goodluck Jonathan , former Nigerian president in military uniform when the occasion demanded for it.

At a time in the life of Nigeria, terrorism seemed to disrupt the ordinary Nigerian life and the criminals were obviously enjoying what they were doing.

A non military Goodluck Jonathan understood the psychology of criminals perfectly. They love life, that is their own life only and they do not want to be caught or stopped in their evil game.

Their survival trick is to strategically infiltrate institutions and do what anarchist do: disrupt things and disrupt life.

Goodluck Jonathan understood them perfectly.

He used the only thing that can stop their indiscipline and insanity.

He used superior force. Boko Haram had infiltrated the army. He knew that. So he bypassed the military for essential operations and approached mercenaries from South Africa who came in with their specialized equipment that included Satellite viewing intelligence gathering technology and a few soldiers.

With overwhelming satellite coverage, the mercenaries had a clear view of the terrain.

Anything unusual going on would be seen in real time.

Helicopters and drones can’t be outrun or outperformed by trucks or motorcycles on ground.

Once any intelligence information got to the command center in a small room, helicopter gunships or weapons grade drones would be dispatched and the terrorists would be taken out.

With attrition and depletion of their manpower being experienced, they had no choice but to give up and repent.

Nigeria started experiencing respite. Fear enveloped the lives of the terrorists in Sambisa and elsewhere. Fear is their greatest weapon. Jonathan turned things around, but politicians in a democracy face elections.

Jonathan lost to Gen. Muhammadu Buhari who seemed sympathetic to their cause for either religious or ethnic reasons and disbanded the mercenaries squad.

So terrorism won its battle back and went back to their ugly game.

Terrorists don’t listen to persuasion. They don’t listen to reason. It’s a pity to see the massacre that they are carrying out in Nigeria’s Middle Belt region.

People that travel today prefer to spend so much money going by air. Ordinary people live in daily fear of their lives and hardly venture out and the government continues to rely heavily on the military that most of the terrorists have infiltrated, fuelling a ruinous war economy that continues to fester.

If the government wants to end the banditry and insurgency quickly, bring back the mercenaries to come into their special command room center and take to their satellite intelligence communication system with air superiority and degrade the terrorists. They will eventually give up and give Nigeria peace.

Why would bandits be allowed to take over peaceful villages, slaughter the villagers and occupy their houses and their land?

The government should go back to the Goodluck Jonathan template and terrorism would be no more.

Check out Chile. The country is experiencing peace now because terrorists are being taken out.

Nigeria can also experience peace once again if the government does the right thing. The indiscipline is getting overwhelming. It has to stop.
