The Plateau State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed the party’s optimism of reclaiming their mandate at the Court of Appeal Court ordered rerun elections for the Northern Senatorial Zone of the State and the Jos/North Bassa Federal Constituency of the State scheduled for Saturday February 3, 2024.

This was disclosed to Party stakeholders and faithfuls at the flag off of the campaign for the former members of the House of Representatives for the Jos North Bassa Constituency, Musa Aviah Agah and the former Minority leader of the Senate, Simon Mwadkwon Fwet held at the Langfield Event Centre in Jos.

Speaking at the occasion the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chairman in Plateau State, Hon. Chris Hassan assured the teeming supporters that contrary to the propaganda being peddled by opposition parties that PDP was not going to be on the ballot for the February 3, 2024 re-run they were fully on ground and would once again sweep the polls just like it did in the February 25, 2023 national Assembly polls noting that the party was well “structured” to deliver the dividends of democracy to the state at all levels.

Former governor of the State Senator Jonah David Jang who also spoke said “Mr governor I urge you to instill discipline by sanctioning members who have been found to be engaged in anti party activities during the travails of the Governor, the House of Assembly Members and the National Assembly at the Court of Appeal which nullified their elections”.

Senator Jang further said that the Supreme Court affirmation of Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s was a testimony that man was not God and that the election that brought Mutfwang was a will of the people of Plateau State.

He enjoined Plateau people to go and and reaffirm the Peoples mandate while assuring that the Plateau people were solidly behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu so that he succeeds as politics was now over and the time for governance had come.

The two candidates for the rerun elections, Musa Aviah Agah and Simon Mwadkwon Fwet also appealed to the electorate to forgive them for whatever shortcomings they might have had in the past and promised to improve on their performance if they reclaim their mandates.

Mwadkwon Fwet on his part, lamented the killings in the State especially in Mangu, Bokkos and Riyom as he sued for calm, pledging to amplify the unfortunate situation at the Senate when the people restore his mandate.

Party elders Chief Raymond Dabo and Hajiya Jamila Gandu expressed confidence in both candidates to deliver at the national assembly if returned by the people of their zones.

Governor of Plateau State Barrister Caleb Mutfwang speaking at the flag off ceremony said this was coming at a difficult time because of the killings going on in the Central zone of the state but because it was ordered by the courts, there was no other option than to come out and support the party’s candidates for the rerun polls.

He further gave a firm promise to Plateau people that the insecurity witnessed across the central zone and environs would soon be a thing of the past as his administration was poised and committed to defending the lives and property of the citizens of Plateau State.

In his word, “My dear PDP members, I have come to thank you as the people of Plateau have a covenant with us I call on INEC to remain impartial and the security agencies to maintain peace. I urge all political office holders to adopt a ward in this re-run as we would do our best to ensure that the people of Plateau continue to hold us accountable”.

Party flags were later presented to the two candidates in the election, Dr Simon Mwadkwon Fwet who will be contesting in the re-run for the Plateau North Senatorial District and Musa Aviah Agah for the Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency in the National Assembly.

The Appeal Court ordered re-run is scheduled to hold in the Federal Constituency and Senatorial District on Saturday February 3, 2024.
