All Progressives Congress (APC) committee chairman posted to Plateau State by the National Secretariat of the party, Alh. Gidado to conduct and supervise the 2022 All Progressive Congress (APC) Plateau North Senatorial District primary elections has decried the high percentage of illiterate delegates which has slowed down the process of voting at the Lingfield venue of the exercise.
Alhaji Gidado pointed out that a good percentage of the delegates can neither read, write nor identify their candidates on the ballot paper which was not only frustrating, but requires the Plateau State Government to intensify the Adult Education Programme in the State.
He equally asked Hon Rufus Bature, the Plateau State Chairman of the APC to convey the message to the Executive Governor of Plateau State as the literacy level of the state should have been higher than that.
The APC Plateau North Senatorial District Elections Committee Chairman, Alh Gidado from Taraba State stated this in his speech after the declaration of the Northern Senatorial Zone Primary Election held at the Landfill, Jos South LGA 28th May,2022.
He advised the winner of the Northern Senatorial Zone Primary Elections, Amb Chris Giwa to set up Adult Education classes to improve the level of illiteracy in the zone.
He stressed that the Election would have been faster if the delegates were educated and they could express themselves both in writing and orally, stressing that until something is done fast, it will threaten the nation’s democratic experience .
Amb Chris Giwa scored 213 votes to emerge the winner of APC Northern Senatorial District Primary election of the State while his closest co-contestant, Mafeng Gwalson, the current Chairman of Riyom LGC, scored 150 votes.
It would be recalled that the Plateau State APC Governorship primaries is being challenged because 98% of votes cast were by a single agent of a Government endorsed candidate which is said to be below the standard practice of elections globally.
